my sociology teachers will be having a fit at this.

poor hoody wearing delinquents. it's all societies fault.

i think it's fair enough though. I have 1 hoodie and it only gets wore when im cold in the house or wake up late and aren't really bothered about looking too presentable.

as far as this case goes. good on them, it's their shopping centre and if these people are driving away customers then it's the smart thing to do. and they're pretty much right. people up here that wear hoodies constantly (and bearing in mind we're talking sporty neddy hoodies not band ones or anything) use them mainly for two reasons: to hide their faces when they're shop lifting or when they're going to attack someone and don't want them to know who it is.

I'm typing this wearing a hooded sweatshirt...guess I'm a thug too.

While this is just about the most asinine thing I've ever heard of, its one redeeming value is that private establishments created the rule, not the British government. If a private establishment doesn't want hooded sweatshirts in their store, that's one thing, the government banning them outright is just wrong.

i'm fairly sure that only people wearing them with the hoods up are being banned. quite why anybody would need their hood up indoors (other than to stop themselves being identified, making themselves look more intimidating etc) is beyond me anyway so i really don't see what the fuss is about.

Sometimes I wear my hood up when I just don't feel like being sociable, when I'd rather keep to myself...

Anyway, I think this is a ridiculous ruling, the removal of hoodies is not going to stop people commiting criminal acts or violence. Its a bit of an overreaction in my opinion, not to mention that it tars an awful lot of people with the same brush

I agree with Paul here. It does appear to be a far-fetched. Next they will be banning youths in tracksuits etc. Its definately getting worse, but its clear that the 'older generation' definately feel more confortable going shopping in such centres, if there are less 'youths' around. Maybe they should ban all youths

LOL, I think you should mate. Or at least tell us what happens to folk who walk in with a hoodie. Surely they cant have guards by the doors of a massive centre?

I don't think the idea is to ban all youths, just to stop them hiding their faces when indoors, a time when hoods are not required and only serve to intimidate others, be they young or old themselves.

^^^And who determines "what's required?" The skulls on my Punisher shirts aren't "required." The pics of Hitler, Mao, and Stalin on the front of my "Mass murderers agree:Gun control works" t-shirt aren't "required." All could be construed as fairly intimidating or distressing to some people. Is it right to deny me entrance to a store because someone MIGHT not like what's on my shirt?

I fully agree with a privately owned store denying entrance based on clothing or anything else. They're well within their rights to do that if they own the store, FORCING them to let people in against their will would be worse. But I sincerely hope their anti-group and anti-hoodie rules take a huge chunk out of their business. That is the free market way to deal with such insanity.

Adrian

PS For the record:I don't usually wear my hood up unless its raining out or I'm cold.
