I think it's ridiculous to set aside a school based on sexual orientation. What's next? Going back to the days of schools separated based on race?

good point Becky, we shouldnt really havfe schools like this. It might be a good idea at the time, but once reality enters the concept, it really is a stupid move.

I also see Mikes point as a very good one too

i mean in scotland and to a lesser extent in england we have some all catholic schools which is bullshit it just creates problems rather than solve them. u can;t teach kids that everyones the same when ur bringing them up to think that they're different from everyone else.

my old guitar teacher and iw ere talking about it a while back. he said his girl had a friend on the same street that she always played with and when the time came for both of them to go to school his daughter couldn;t understand why her friend had to go to a different school from her.

**** i just realised people are agreeing with my opinions for once :P

How is this legal? How can a PUBLIC school, paid for with federal funds be segregated based on sexual orientation?

Why isn't the Office of Civil Rights protesting this? By providing a smaller school setting with smaller classes, these kids will get an advantage that the straight kids at the huge public schools don't have.

When did sexual orientation become an issue for acceptance to a school? It's discriminatory to the straight kids.

If it were a private school that was privately funded, then I wouldn't find it as questionable. But this is a public school, therefore, it should be open to the public. The only factors that should come into acceptance are geographic location and age. Even the most disabled of students are usually placed at their local agencies. With No Child Left Behind, even geographic location will become an obsolete factor. If a child's home school is failing, then that child can be sent to another school or a public school with federal dollars.

I do not understand how this school was justified.

I think that if society were more tolerant of people, regardless of their sexual orientation, then we wouldn't need to have a school like this. I had a friend in high school who got ridiculed on a daily basis for being gay. Kids are mean. You don't see many people getting picked on for being straight.

On the flip side though, does this mean that we'll open special schools just for fat people? Or special schools for poor kids? Everyone gets picked on at some point or another. It's part of growing up and it's how we learn to deal with these adverse conditions in our adolesence that make us stronger adults. Of course, everyone is entitled to be able to go to school without having the constant fear of being beat up for being different.
