it'll just be like my old primary school. 2 schools totally identical sitting right next to each other. i goto the non denominational school and then theres the RC school right next door.

man we used to fight like mofo's just for the sake of it. i can;t even imagine whats going to happen to them.

has anyone else clicked on that theres not many gay people or at least people who r in school and at that age that r open about it?

I think it is a bit crazy because NYC is supposed to be in such a financial crisis at this time. Yet, they can still find the money for something like this. Plus, how do you qualify to get in? Just say you are gay, and there you go. Is there some sort of gay test you have to pass to prove it?

how do they actually determine whether they are gay or not? Do they have to bum the administrator?

Ok that was just being silly, but how can they enrole people? It must be quite a damaging thing for a child who at 12 doesn't have a clue what sexuality he is to be pushed in that atmosphere. Again this sounds silly, but when you think that 'gay' is seen as cool in some areas (fashonable or whatever) then is it possiable that irrisponsable parents would stick their kids in a place like that so they look hip?

Ridiculous! I'm all for gay rights and such, but this will just create problems. They want the same rights as heterosexuals, as in marriage and adoption, because they want to be seen as full members of a community, but then they get separated in school so doesn't this teach them that they are different??
I sincerely hope that this doesn't go through!

I'm just wondering, what they gonna teach there?. How to be gay or lesbian?. How to make love to gay or lesbian?.

But one thing for sure, i'll join any school where they teach how to make love to Lesb.

Well, it would seem that the overall homophobic tone among a small contingecy of sexually insecure little boys on this site would come into play.
So, here goes.

a) I don't believe it's discrimating against anyone. It's a public school. No one is forced to go to. It's a magnet school so gay/lesbian teenagers being harassed and bullied in public school can learn in a safe environment without the threat of violence. At what point does being gay mark you as not entitled to a good, safe, educational school experience? No, it's not a reflection of the real world however, high school never is a reflection of the real world. High school is a festering cesspool of hormones and teenagers. C'mon - it's brutal.

b) If you wanted to go there and you were straight, you could probably go. It's not closed off to non-homosexual students. But if you're not gay, where is the inherent desire to attend a school for gay students?

c) Pride in who you are is fine. If you're uncomfortable with homosexuals, it's OK to say it. There's more honesty in saying you're uncomfortable with it for religious reasons. It's OK if you don't believe in it. It's OK if you don't approve of it. Just let people live their own lives and don't intervene, don't abuse, don't harass. Then you can believe whatever you want, support whatever you want, be disgusted by whatever you choose. But don't place your values upon others who don't necessarily believe in your system of beliefs.

d) They're not teaching people how to be gay/lesbian. They're not restricting who teaches there. These students are being taunted and harassed on a daily basis by homophobic fellow students, some of whom are violent (and probably not far from the family trees of some of the people posting on this thread, apparently) who get so incredibly wound up about homosexuals. What's being flung in your face? A parade? That you didn't participate in? You didnt' attend? You saw on the news or in the paper? That's throwing it in your face? Live and let live. If you're in a restaurant and a pair of men start making out in front of you, I could understand if you felt that was having something flung in your face? Especially if you weren't in a gay neighborhood. But, it's really no different than a woman whipping out a breast to nurse a child. Some people find that - as naturral as it is - obscene and unacceptable. People tolerate different things. Your threshhold of tolerance for homosexual behavioUr is very low. Clearly. But your perception that something's being "flung in your face" is not fact - it's your reaction to it.

e) NYC is short on money, especially in schools. On that basis, as sympathetic as you want to be for any student have a tough go at it, it's hard to make sense of this. Also, if gay kids are being picked on, what's next? Special schools for fat kids? kids with glasses? Kids with good grades (oh, wait, they already have Stuyvesant!) - I think the intent is good. Whether the benefits outweigh the negative public opinion is yet to be decided.

f) I'm not gay. I'm not a gimp. My name is not Dezza. But, since most of the culprits at this site behind these theories show little regard for facts, information, truths, common sense and rational thought, my guess is this post might go unread by them (and you know who you are, little boys) as the big words and lack of pictures might confuse them.

yet again, you seem to mistake basic English for 'big words'

now, providing Dezza wasnt head gimp..sorry teacher..at this school I'd go there without any problems

Oh, so it's the basic English that's confusing you too? So sad.
You know, in time, that condition can rectify itself. Good luck, champ.

it's not the basic English no, although Mongoose and I are not the C L E V E R E S T of people it seems.

As for insecurity: did you have no friends when you were "a little adolescent" then? Does it hurt to have a continual reminder of that here, on an internet webpage... so nearly connecting people from 1000s of miles away?
