Actually it doesn't eat away at muscle mass because of the high amount of protein that you eat. Although, the lack of muscle glycogen could cause some catabolism during intense exercise due to cortisol levels not being diminished.

A ketosis diet isn't actually unhealthy at all, as long as it is done properly. However the way the Atkins diet presents it doesn't exactly do much for good health. Bodybuilders have been following a low-carb ketosis diet for years during cutting cycles and contest preperation, and nobody can argue with their level of health and fitness. However, a proper ketosis diet doesn't advocate the eating of high fat protein sources, but only the leanest possible, so the levels of saturated fat eaten are kept to an absolute minimum keeping cholestorol levels down. It also doesn't cut carb intake to quite the level that the atkins diet suggests, and still promotes strategic carb intake during the day, i.e. After exercise, upon waking up. The main problem with the atkins diet isn't the fact that it makes you cut carbs, or induces a state of ketosis, it's the fact that it promotes possibly the most unhealthy diet regime I've ever heard of - High fat, high protein, with little to no fibre. Good one Dr Atkins!!

lol ill have to add thsi to the carreer suggestions ive had this week. my girlfriend reckons i should be a lawyer cos i pointed out her mum was wrong when a shop mispriced something on a shelf and she thought the shop were obliged to give her it for the aqdvertised price.

and dave not shooting down ur theory but bodybuilders r not healthy guys and from what ive seen they eat a disgusting asmount of carbs cos of all the energy they burn they need to have loads.

Well I don't know what bodybuilders you've met or seen, but trust me, the majority are unbelievably healthy, and the rest are probably healthier than your average person. And also, trust me again (as a bodybuilder, and having talked to many others I know this) they don't always eat a lot of carbs. Depending on the method, during cutting cycles a lot of bodybuilders will considerably reduce the amount of carbs they take in to cause a state of ketosis in their bodies. Not shooting down your theory or anything

What a wonderfully evil idea. I'm going to do a bit of healthy dieting on my own while we're off work just to prove to them that you CAN loose weight and eat a balanced meal too.

sack pasta. bring in the biggest kfc bucket or big mac u can find and watch them get the shakes and start sweating while u devour it.

And that's why I get so pissed off with the publics perception of bodybuilding! No offence to you, but the publics perception of bodybuilding is unbelievably ignorant. Steroid use, as it is illegal, is extremely rare, and when it is used, actually becomes an exact science, not just a matter of throwing it in with your carbs! As for the amount of carbs bodybuilders eat, it depends what cycle they're on. You see bodybuilders use cycles to build their bodies - bulking cycles to put on mass, and cutting cycles to get rid of bodyfat. When bulking, bodybuilders eat huge amounts of protein, and a lot of carbs. But when cutting (dieting), the majority will use a ketosis diet, and so will cut out carbs almost completely. Also, 6 Hours in the gym would make you smaller than a dwarf!
