Why don't you just call it soccer? you guys have two names for your sport, we have one. We stay at football, you stay at soccer... because i get confused too often.

Err, we have one name for the sport and, at the risk of opening the same old can of worms but I'll say it anyway, it's also the correct one.

It's football. Always has been, always will be.

Well I have never heard anyone in my life call it football except in books and online...... AND YES there are two names, soccer and football. If you called it soccer no one would be confused.

Half a million a week to kick a football? There needs to be some sort of intervention by Fifa or the FA surely as the whole concept is so insane, words cannot do it justice.

I thought Beckham was a sell-out going to the USA but this is even worse. For him to turn round and say it's Milan's decision as to whether he stays or goes is basically him trying to shift any notion of greed away from himself and on to the club. Why doesn't he actually grow a pair and tell relegation-threatened City where they can stick their 500 grand a week! He might be lighter in the pocket for it (albeit only slightly in the grand scheme of things I'm sure) but at least he'll keep his respect and dignity amongst all people, not just football fans.
I think this is the worst thing they can to do to football

No there is one correct name and another name that America made up for it. If I and everyone over here in the UK decided to call baseball something else like batball (for example), it wouldn't suddenly mean there are two official names for the same thing.

I absolutely hate having to repeat myself in various threads when this comes up but if you (or America) came up with an original name for a sport invented after 'football', there wouldn't be any confusion. Why should we all accept the americanism that is 'soccer'? It makes no sense.

This is going well off topic though so I'm not gonna rant any more about it. Accept the differences and move on.

Everywhere else in the world you say football it means 11 men (or women!) a side, kicking a ball with their foot. It means Manchester United, AC Milan, Galatasaray...etc etc. You are in the minority here.
The minute it changes to American football being in the majority then maybe we can talk....but until then, how about we call your football: rugby....with pads

So anyway, everyone else - back on topic. i hear Rafa has turned down a new contract? Is he holding out for a better offer you think? or wanting to move on?

"But I'll tell you something...he went down in my estimation when he said that...we have not resorted to that...and ya can tell him now if he's watchin'...we're still fightin' for this title...They're gonna come to Anfield and get something...and I'll tell ya...honestly...I would love it if we beat them. Love it!"

Kev, as much as i like you, you're being bitter lately and it's just not funny. Why are Evertonians sooo bitter?

Anyway, yeah, bit gutted Rafa rejected contracted but i'm still hopeful he will sign if the right terms are offered to him.
