OMG F'n GOD!

ok, i got a call not long ago from my brother at college saying he will be late back as there was a problem, but didnt go into detail. i called him back to shout "tell me wtf your on about and dont use me as your assistnat"

turns out whilst they were getting their results his girlfrineds best mate got a C grade in something...she is suicidel apparently and didnt take it too well, she ran off crying to the toilets then when Hannah (brothers g/f) went to check on her..she found her pass out on the floor and she has slit her writs with a craft knife.

im not too sure what her problem is, its sad...she is in hospital now, my mum went up there and took her to A&E but, i dont get it...how much pressure where her parents putting on her to do well then summit like this happends...its not right.

geez i dont even know what to say now just heard the girl will be ok...but...i dont know...urm...how can someone do this then just think its an end to it, if it was worse and fatal what would people around her say, it was something as pathetic as a collage mark, ok, its important, but not worth your life over...surely?

i dont even know what point im making, just want to know if im thinking along the right line...

It's horrible the things people do to themselves when they feel that they've failed at something I think it's that she thought she didn't live up to other people's or her own expectations, and felt like she was a failure, which of course she's not.

This happened at my high school when I had my a-levels. A guy in the same year got worse marks than he wanted, so he shot himself in the mouth with a rifle. He left a note behind saying something about failing, and an apology. He didn't die but had a severe damage in his mouth obviously, and was in intensive care for a long time. I don't know how he is nowadays, it's been years since this happened. I was shocked at how people can react to these things

Of course this is worse for you since the girl is close to your brother's gf... And for your brother's gf it must also be very bad, seeing her friend like that Can't be very easy...

That's really quite sad. I hate it when I read stories like these. The one good thing to come out of this though is that the girl will now get some psychiatric treatment, as she obviously has some issues.
I wonder if her grades had anything to do with it though, could have just been the last straw. Maybe her parents are indeed pressuring her and maybe she is putting that pressure on herself, hopefully she will get the help she needs.
I never understand suicide anyway, I can't believe any situation is so bad that you can't see a way out and I think it is very selfish to your loved ones around you. A friend of mine tried to kill himself in December and it shook me up, but at the end of the day he was the one who had to help himself and get himself out of the s*it, no one else can.
Anyway, I hope she is okay and that it all works itself out.
Just be there for your brother, he'll need some support as he needs to support his girlfriend. Good luck.

hmm. thanks for your answer, i kinda guessed its happend abit before, but i dont know. noone ever expected me to do well, they used to, but then..the last few years i have just become an arse at school and though my parents expect me to do well i think deep down that they know i wont. i just cant get it into my head how this girl passes, but is still upset...

as for hannah, she is with her now...this girls parents dont even know yet, she didnt want them there apparently

I hope she is okay, at the end of the day all they are are letters on a page and even if you have A* in every exam it doesn't mean you can get a brilliant job, i done okay in my GSCE's and A-Levels, well enough to put me on university course for teaching english drama, but if all be told, i couldn't do the job because i don't have the patience for young people!! Exams tell people that you can string a sentence together, that you can add up and know how animals reproduce, it doesn't tell you how to use common sense and more important skills you need... LIFE SKILLS, you can't live on what you learn in school! I work as a team manager in a call centre now, they are the sweatshops of the uk, the most soul destroying place to work but my patience wasn't good enough for teaching, so for all i got the grades i didn't have the gusto.

Tell this girl that the results are not everything, that aslong as she has people who love her and friends to support her then she is doing fine anyway and has a headstart in life. I'm sure others will agree

I'd say that's more proof that schools put way too much emphasis on exams. Even from an early age (6-7 year olds) are told to go home and learn things because they have a SATS assessment. It's ridiculous.

Same with SATS in Year 9, way too much emphasis is put on them.

So by the time people get to A levels, they've already sat heaps of previous public examinations, each time being told they're really important. If you have teachers shouting in your ear 24/7 that an exam is really important to your life, and then you don't get the grade you need, of course you're going to feel down.

The system needs to change.

4king hell. I hope she is alright. Exams and exam-times can be so stressfull. It really annoys me at the amount of pressure that the government put upon young people these days. Years ago young adults didnt need that piece of paper and as bon geordie said, as long as you have "life skills" surely that should be the most important thing when it comes to hiring someone for a job.

Joeykid...I hope she is alright and that she comes though this ok. Alot of the time it is mental-scars that can do the most damage.

I don't know why people get so worried about it. I just got mine (CCDD), and it's what I was expecting, but hey, if I hadn't got it, I could have just spend a year at college again re-sitting. I've never had pressure on me, my mum and dad always just said to do my best, and I did.
