I care about what some people think, but not what people in general think.

It depends! I do believe in first impressions and am willing to give people the beneift of the doubt. With my friends, I can hang out and be care-free, if I'm meeting new people, I try to get myself nice looking (or if its the first day of school or something similar). However, now for example, I know everyone, the teachers know me and what kind of student I am, so I do stunts now and wear different types of clothing than whats the 'fad' now. After people get to know me, theres not so much pressure to be perfect.

Not really. I think to an extent I care what people close think, but I will still not substitute their judgement for my own. I really don't care what others think. I believe strongly in not changing who I am to suit others, what you see is what you get. The people close to me made the effort to get to know me and if someone wishes only to see the top layer and not dig deeper, then tough - they are not someone that I want as a friend.
Clothes I just like in general and I think it is just taking pride in yourself to dress nice and to smell nice and be showered etc. that has nothing to do what other people think, but more what I think about myself.

Id like to say no but i think its a yes. It depends wot we are talking about, I wos wearing a Bon Jovi t shirt to school and some boy said "you shouldnt wear thatpeople are gonna take the piss" did i care no? So if i really like something, Like bon jovi im not scared to let everyone know! If its someone close to me who says something like i need to change my attitude then i will think about it. But i always make sure i look half decent when going out if not i just dont feel right, But its more for me then anyone else. You should never judge anyone by your first meeting tho, Actually you shouldnt judge anyone atall untill you have walked a mile in their shoes..

cool story.
i've got a funny LA hotel story too, different, but also about clothes etc. (and about our very first impression when we travelled to the USA for the first time...)

it's not directly on the subject though. anybody wanna hear it all the same?

Same for me, except when I go to work during the week, I really don't give a damn what I look like, though I do wear a cap because I can't be stuffed doing my hair.

As I am going to travel to LA in some weeks, I'd definitely like to hear it

I would like to hear. LA is a totally different world than the East Coast.

ok, here we go then:

it was back in 1995 when we went for a familiy trip to the USA. first we flew to LA, where we stayed 2 nights in the hilton airport hotel. sounds like that's very expensive, but there you can have 1 room (which is actually meant for 2 persons) with 2 really large beds, and if you are a family it's allowed that 4 persons stay in there but only 2 have to pay(we've done that in canada before). don't know whether you can still do that todays...

ok, so we came to the hotel to check in (dressed up as comfortable as possible because of the long flight) and they told us: "we're very very sorry, but we don't have any free rooms with these large beds, only one "normal" room with "normal" beds. it's the holiday seasons and something somehow went wrong in the room calculation."

we thought: hmm, ok, then we take this "normal" room; but the guy explained us, that it was somehow not allowed that 4 of us would stay in there because of a fire protection law or something like that.

we already started to think that we had a rather big problem, when this guy suddenly put on a very friendly smile and asked: "but would you mind staying in one of our suites instead, for the same price?" we of course agreed and thought: "cool, ok." but we didn't really understand then.

we began to understand when we realised that we had to use the room key in the elevator to go to the top floor, the other people in the hotel can't reach that floor. then there were these security guys up there standing around and watching every move we made, and the hotel boy explained them why we were up there etc. the men up there were dressed up in tuxedos and the women were dressed up like this was an opera ball.

finally we found out that our suite had 3 sleeping rooms, a kitchen, 2 "living rooms", 2 bath rooms, 6 or 7 tv's in the suite, included room service for free etc. etc.

even with the most smart clothes that we had with us, we still looked like farmers compared to the other people and everybody looked at us like we actually were farmers! almost all other people having a suite up there were from some kind of political congress, i didn't know any of them, but they looked and acted very important, and there were always security guys near the elevators.

so we stayed 2 nights in this luxus suite that would have cost a few hundred dollars per night and person, and we got all the glances from the others up there and it was just very funny and a perfect start for the holidays...

by the way: the last two nights we also spent there, 5 weeks later, but this time they had a free room...

i didn't really like LA in general, i liked almost all other US cities a lot more, but because of that experience i still like to think back a lot.

as i said: not really on the subject....
