When I travel on business, I always stay in VERY nice hotels in very nice areas of town. However, upon arrival and in my leisure time, I do not dress fancy. I definitely notice a difference in treatment if I wear a suit or ripped jeans. Though, I enjoy it more when I wear the jeans

Latest example at the Fairmont in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. I got out of the cab in ripped jeans, t-shirt and sunglasses. The cab driver unloaded my luggage, but no hotel staff was available. It was clear that after the bus boy gave me one look, he didn't think of me as a priority (as I should have been as an arriving guest). I left my luggage outside and passed him, giving him a stare. I checked in and asked the check-in staff if it was policy at the Fairmont for guests to carry my own bags up to my room. They were very apologetic and paged the bus boy. He got a big tip nonetheless and hurried every time he saw me to open doors for me or to ask how I was. I hope he won't be so quick to judge anymore (though I doubt it).

Anybody can dress up and get treated nicely, I enjoy it much more if I am not wearing the expected attire and still get first class treatment.
