ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
Michael Moore: Whoa. On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction. We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much.

He was saying that Bush is wrong. I don't think there's much chance of anyone misintrepeting it. They booed because they didn't agree => they think Bush is right.

The Two Towers was really really good, such a spectacular film, well directed, and just a superb piece of cinema.

I think it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. This time around the story was too varied, they didn't allow it to develop, too much jumping from one place to another. Plus they altered the story more than necessary. I hope the third will be better.

I'm sure Pacino knows his performance in the Godfather, Serpico, Scarface, and Donnie Brasco were much more memerable than the film he did win an Oscar for (was it called Sea of Love? the one where he's blind).

The Scent of a Woman. And I actually thought he was very good in it.

For people like Hally Berry, it has made her a more sort after actress, and has boosted her carear.

As good as Berry was, I think it was more of a "colored" Oscar. Berry was just in the right place at the right time. She's good, but this Oscar was just a way of "making it okay". They hadn't given an Oscar to any african-american woman so they had to fix it.

What's nice about the Oscars, is that it does bring some recognition to people, and make less blockbuster type films (i.e the Pianist was released over here on selected release) get the credit, and attention they deserve.

It hardly ever happens though.
I think the Oscars are a nice tradition, but it's been going downhill for the last few years. They should really liven it up a bit, cut all the rules and regulations and get some action into the show. There's no element of surprise in it anymore.
