It's sad for his family, friends and fans, but most of all I hope it will open some eyes in the cycling world about drug taking.

You know Ponrauil, some people, especially in the sports world can do the error to fall in doping, he did it and he committed a big error. But he was a tiny person, and after that facts in 1999 all the italian press felt against him, forgetting what Marco did an year earlier, that he won Giro and Tour (and he was claimed as an hero by the same press) after an injury that could have stopped his career, when he had a leg semi-destroyed.
And today the same press one more time is complaining him as an hero for the italian sport. This is definitely hypocrisy.
I will remember just that Marco is dead alone, and everyone of us is guilty for his end, because he committed an error, but this is one of the limits of a human being. And the world did nothing to help him.
But I'm sure most of the people that really believe in sport and in everything connected to sport, will remember Marco Pantani as "Il Pirata". The boy that, with his way of climbing mountains with his bike, won in an year the two most important cycling events in Europe and not Marco Pantani as the boy who felt in depression after an error that he paid too much: with his life.

I think sooner or later they will announce that he has died by using illegal supplements or doping. It can't be something else since he was only 34 years.

Since it's a well know things that cyclists are most doped athletes in the world, now there's just few more examples for everyone on "where doping takes athletes".

IMO, take the pill, needle, whatever.... and u have it coming.

First: if you guys don't know shit, you'd better keep your mouths shut or do your studying beforehand.

He obviously dragged himself to death because his whole life had come to be meaningless to him.
He had drifted away from the world around him and had (in his eyes) no reason to stay here anymore. He died alone because that's where his life took him in the last period. He was deeply depressed and was even going to leave for Bolivia to treat his condition (he had been in a rehab center last June after he took part in il Giro d'Italia, but that wasn't enough evidently). He simply thought it was too much for him to take and decided to put an end to his existance.

Unfortunately doping is a common thing with professional cyclists. Many people are at it, and whenever anyone does anything amazing I always wonder whether the guy is on some sort of enhancement drug. It was definately known that Pantani was at it, and was probably the reason for his death. This also suggests that Jose Maria Jimenez was taking drugs too. Me being a big fan of the Banesto team he was one of my favourate riders, and I used to love watch him winning mountain stages and gaining the polka-dot jersy in le Tour de France. It's a crying shame, but I think he was on drugs too.

It also makes you wonder if top riders like Miguel Indurain and Lance Armstrong were also on drugs. If so then they have concealed it really well as there has been no positive drug tests. In Indurain's case I think it likely that he didn't use drugs as he is a genetic freak, with the lung capacity twice that of regular athletes. With Armstrong then I'm not sure because there was a scandal about him seeing an Italian doctor, well known for doping athletes.

I just received some shocking news. The investigators have more than one reason to think that the death of Marco Pantani wasn't a suicide.
They're waiting the first results of the autopsy later today, but the option of the homicide isn't excluded. They're also waiting for the results of the pharmacologic exams.
I'm really shocked and if this rumour will be confirmed... then I won't know what to think...

All of this is pretty much pointless because what's being discussed is not about doping in case some haven't caught on yet.
