edema cerebrale e polmonare=fluids in lungs and brains. This is the result of today's autopsy. More detailed tests will reveal the cause of this within the next 2 weeks.

Roma, 16 feb. (Adnkronos Multimedia) - Edema polmonare e cerebrale.

IMO, take the pill, needle, whatever.... and u have it coming.
Not true necessarily. The sport is doing more than any other to remove all drug taking. It was also the first to admit there was a problem there.

Armstrong is clean, in my opinion. I doubt someone who came that close to death would take these substances in order to sacrifice his health again.

Also, Pantani was never found positive for taking drugs. It was his heamoctrite levels that were high- yes, this suggests that some drugs like EPO might have been used. But, he was tested in the '99 Giro after several days worth of racing in high Mountains. As a result, his haemocrite levels will be different to what they normally are, and slightly over the UCI allowed figure.

Also, it has not been confirmed that he died of drugs, but this might well be the case:

Quote:
Monday, 16 February: The autopsy of Marco Pantani's body has determined that the cause of death was pulmonary and cerebral edema. Trauma and violence have been completely ruled out as causes.

Further test results are required to determine what caused the cerebral edema.

Prescription minor tranquilizers and anti-depressants were found in Pantani's room. Further toxicological screening will determine whether he had elevated medicinal values in his system. These results will be known in the coming days.
If he died of drugs when he has all but given up racing professionally, does it mean that he took drugs when he was racing. No. So, don't instantly put two and two together and make four.

A good example is Jan Ullrich- he was found with Cocaine in his system in 2001, yet is still racing today after some difficult time. Is he a "druggy". No, the tests prove this. Some will say that the drugs can be cleaned out of a body system quickly, but the methods in this great sport can still detect them. Also, drug trafficing is detectable. Ask Willy Voet or Phillip Gaumont. They'll know.

So, without trying to offend anyone, please make sure you know the facts before making up a bunch of lies. Especially when Pantani was a brilliant rider.

It's a well known thing that 98% of professional cyclists AND high level amateurs use drugs.
2/3 of the athletes in the Tour de France officially have asthma, how is that possible?
It doesn't mean that Pantani died because of drugs but they sure played a big part in his rise and fall.
