You might not have a Dell-BIOS in it. Do you remember what kind of logo you got right when you turned the computer on. That's the BIOS manufacturer. Something like AMI BIOS, Award BIOS etc.

Dell often uses Phoenix BIOS. Check the beeps again (are you sure it's 5 up front?) And then this page:

Yes, I am sure there are 5 beeps. Is the first beep not important? I am reletively sure it is not a Phoenix bios, I think it is a Dell bios but I am not sure. Do I have to call them to find out? I can't look at it on the monitor anymore obviously

Probably yes. You might want ask about the beeps while you're at it. The beeps usually tell what's wrong with the machine. But I didn't find any BIOS info on the net with 5 beeps.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions...somehow it ended up just being the memory. I guess it has to be seated in a specific order on these Dells and I had the one reversed with the other and it stopped working. They put it together like that when we got it two years ago and I guess when I moved it downstair it came loose a bit and only then did the computer reconize the error...fickle little machines aren't they??? haha 2 damn years without a poblem. And it had nothing to do iwth the UPS failure I guess....bizarre

And no one can explain the 5 2 2 1 either

thanks again!
