Pledge of Allegiance- Legal Guidelines

First no more Christmas and now this:



Students may refuse to participate for any reason: including on, religious, political, philosophical, or personal grounds.


Makes me disgusted. All that our ancestors fought for in the USA, reduced to this. This country gives you a job, home, money, etc. along with a supposed "better way of life." I think the least they can do is the Pledge Of Allegiance for goodness sake.

where do you come from dude? everyone in your country has three meals a day? a bed to sleep? a flat? a job? money? forget about your american dream. you seem to come from a movie with happy ending...

Funny how you can't pray in school or say the name of God, but when the Towers went down everyone was calling on Him and the entire Congress was singing God Bless America on the steps of the Capital. Bunch of damn hypocrites.

I am confused by what you are saying. I meant that people come here from foreign countries to make a better life for themselves, which a great many do and now they are refusing to say the Pledge. You can't argue with the fact that people, who come from places like India, do so because this country can give them a better life in the way of jobs, homes, food, education etc.?? Why else would they come here? This is like a movie with a happy ending?

they may have a better life (but let's face it they generally don't walk into high paid jobs in NYC... they do the jobs noone else will) - it's the way things go

why should they pledge allegiance to that is all i'm saying - the system doesn't work for everyone and even places like US and Britain still effectively have poverty - it just goes unnoticed

obviously this is nothing compared to anywhere else though...

also having to pledge allegiance sounds a bit like Nazi Germany for me... you can be patriotic or a good citizen without having to remind everyone around you all the time about it...

Oh, I notice the poverty here. Our politicians ignore it.

I think the pledge is a show of appreciation for the people who fought for this country's freedom. Just because the system might not work for everyone doesn't mean people should not appreciate the fact we are a free nation. It just shows that we are not forgetting the people who died to ensure us of the life we have today.

I don't think a 2 second pledge each day is so much to ask. Especially since we teach no American history in our school.
