If you are talking about presidency:
Its unrealistic to think this way, because he's not a natural citizen. Presidents can only be natural citizens. Unless he changes the law!

Both Nixon and Reagan were elected from the state of California to become president.

There is however a good chance that he will be governor of California. He has the popularity vote, for sure. I dont know who he is running against.

hes not running against as such, its a recall vote versus the current (rather bland) governor

In the event of a recall vote Californians would be asked to vote twice: on whether the governor should be recalled, and on their choice for a new governor in the event the recall succeeds

regardless of his individual policies?

Actually, I enjoyed studying American politics in detail, such a contrasting system. For example the fact that most people place such value on their right to vote etc, but then just vote in terms of people politics..a worrying trend across the globe :/
