Default Poll for School

I have to do a poll on people's views on euthanasia. If you are not aware of what euthanasia is, it means: the merciful killing of another for the purpose of ending the pain and suffering.

If you don't mind, can you please answer the following questions? It can be a paragraph long or a one word answer if you would like. It is up to you.

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?

I thank you for all your help!

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not? Yes

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia? I would wish to die by means of euthanasia

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia? by euthanasia

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not? yes it should become legal as watching loved ones dying is a hard thing to see, perhaps people should sign something to say that they agree to euthanasia if it ever occured

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why? I would allow my pet to die by euthanasia, if people can kill pets this way then humans should be allowed to choose whether they want to live or die

Yes, should be an option when one is sure to die in pain.

If death and pain are invincible, euthanasia.

Their choice above all. If I'm entitled to choose for them, euthanasia.

Yes, because pain and suffering are not necessary. Needs strict rules though.

Yes.
Yes.
Again, pain is useless when you're sure of dying.

1.Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?
Yes. I believe people should have the choice of whether or not to end
their life. It is after all, their life.

2.If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?Naturally. I don't think I'd have the guts to kill myself. No matter what people may say, that sort of thing takes a bit of backbone, and I don't think I could kill myself, no matter what I was going through.

3.If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?I'd want them to choose. It wouldn't be me that was dying.

4.Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?
Yes. You should have the right to terminate your life should you decide to. It shouldn't be up to society to keep your here against your will.

5.Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dying from euthanasia? Why? I think I would. I've never been in a situation where I'd have to though. Even when my very best friend, my ferret Veil, was dying in January, I kept trying various medicines and stuff to keep her alive. I don't think she wanted to go either. Her very last day alive she still tried to run down the hall to my room in the morning, even though she was so weak that she fell several times. I never considered for a moment having her put to sleep. Euthanasia isn't the same for pets as it is for humans. With pets, its our responsibility to take care of them and make choices for them that we think are best. Humans have the right to choose whether or not to live or die.

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?
Yes but only at certain times, only if permission is granted from the sufferer.

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?
Definitly die naturally. If i'm supposed to die, then i'm supposed to die -- no use quickening the process; something great may happen :P . Just like being hooked up to machines; if i'm supposed to die, then let me die.

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?
This is a hard question to answer! I wouldn't want them to be in pain at all, but i wouldn't want to tell them that they should die. I would say whatever they decided i would stand by their choice....

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?
I thought it was legal because of the above questions.... Anyways, I do belive it should be legalized because some people may not want to die a painful death, and just want to end it all before it gets anymore painful. I think i saw a movie where someone was desperate enough from the pain that they wanted out of if it, that they killed themselves. If euthanasia was around, that could've been administered and then there would've been no need of a suicide....okay, but then taking the euthanasia would be considered suicide, too, wouldn't it?

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?
I believe pets dieing by euthanasi is all right, no one wants to see a loved pet suffer from pain. I'm not quite sure if it's the same as a person dieing from euthanasia, because people have the ability to make choice.

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?

Yes. If someone would rather die than be in pain I think it should be their own prerogative.

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?

Depends on the disease and the severity of it.

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?

Whichever they wanted. I think it should be up to them, not anyone else.

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized?

Yes.

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?

We had one of our dogs put down a few years ago. Obviously, it was a hard thing to do, but to us it was much better than watching him suffer.

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. If someone is suffering and there is no hope of them ever recovering, I believe it is their right to say "I want to die peacefully". I've been unfortunate enough in my life to have seen a very close family member suffer needlessly when there was never a hope for recovery. If our dog is suffering, we'll put them to sleep, but if a human is suffering, they have to continue to suffer. I realize that there is a huge difference between the value of a human's life and the value of a dog's life, but to me it's the same principal behind it.

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?

If there was no hope of ever recovering, then I would want to end my life.

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?

Like I said, I've seen a loved one die naturally from a terminal illness. To put it plain and simple, it sucked. It was the worst thing I've ever had to live through.

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?

That is a difficult question. I think it should be legal, but I worry that people will take advantage of it. However, I don't think euthanasia will ever become legalized. At least not with our current political leaders in office.

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?

I mentioned that in an earlier answer. No, I would never allow my pet to suffer needlessly. It would break my heart to have to put her to sleep, but I wouldn't want to see my dog suffering either. Human life holds more value in society than that of an animal. But, that leads to this question, why is it OK to let a human suffer, but if you keep a pet alive that is terminally ill it is considered inhumane?

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?

Yes, I think we should if possible have a choice in how we die. In the sense if I have an incurable disease than it should be my choice when and how I go.

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?

See above

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?

My grandmother had cancer and was dying, in the end she was just given morphine for the pain but no medication. I totally agreed.

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?

It is legal here. I think leagalising it puts more restrictions on it and there are tougher guidelines to follow. There have to be 3 seperate doctors' findings whether or not the request is justified. It isn't something that isn't just carried out because someone lost the will to live.

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?

If I can end his suffering by performing euthanasia than yes, it will always remain a tough decision but I would. It is the same with humans. Like the saying goes: They shoot horses don't they?

Hope this helps.. any questions, you know where to find me!

Yes I do - I believe in choice. If a person decides that enough is enough their wishes should be respected.

Euthanasia most definitely.

It wouldn't matter what I wanted - I'd ask them what they wanted

Yes I do - I think people should be able to choose how they want to end their life if they are suffering from an incurable disease.

Yes I would and I have - I couldn't stand to watch my old cat struggle to walk and not be able to keep food down. This is not at all the same as a person dying from euthanasia. A person would have a choice and the animal obviously has none.
If a person is so damaged that they cannot decide for themselves (such as after a car accident) I would hope that I could make an informed decision for them. Obviously this would only pertain to my immediate family.

1. Do you believe in the practice of euthanasia? Why or why not?

yes for the simple fact that a person wanting to kill themselves is their choice and apart from the emotional pain it cuases initially, it;s much easier for everyone involved for it to be over quickly insteadof suffering years or decade3s of pain and torment

2. If you had a painful life-threatening disease, would you wish to die naturally or die by means of euthanasia?

i'd take my own life. i hate hospital, homes and pretty much any place like that and i'm determined not to die in one of those place so if or when push comes to shove i'll do it on my terms.

3. If a loved one, or close friend had a painful life threatening disease, would you want them to die naturally or by means of euthanasia?

if they chose to do so then i don;t see who i am to stop them same as i wouldnt want anyone goign against my wishes

4. Do you think euthanasia should become legalized? Why or why not?

yes because in the end its the persons choice. everyone should have the right to decide wether to live in pain or die when they want to

5. Euthanasia is legal when it pertains to animals. Would you allow your pet to die by euthanasia? If so, is it the same as a person dieing from euthanasia? Why?

if we can put animals out of their misery it's a bit hypocritical not to afford humans the same right. i've put a dog down and whereas theres obviously a difference i still think both should be allowed.
