Default prank calls

ever since the start of the iraq invasion (a month ago) someone has been making prank calls to my family phone saying "go home", "get deported", "bloody foreigners", "f### off", etc, and theyve been saying stuff to me, my brother and mother, but not my dad, so we guess its someone from me and my brothers school (or our old school), or from mums workplace, and theyve been insulting my mum a lot in particular and its really upset her, and also shes got cancer so its even more stressful for her. we told the police and they appear to be doing bugger all about it. i dont recognise the voice so i dont really know who it is and so i dont know how they got my number. also they know my name and they say they know where i live (but ive never seen them near my house) and i dont know them so someone is telling them all about me. i think its more likely the person who gave the phoner is from my present school cos its never happened before.
what do u think i should do? im thinking of telling a teacher in case it really was someone at my school who gave out my number, and see if they can find out who it was, but i dont think the person will own up, and all their cliques will stick up for them, so its gonna be tricky...
PS it shows how stupid this person is too, cos im an italian not an iraqi, and i cant be deported cos i was born here! bloody retards!

just get a hold of your phone company and get them to bar any incoming withheld numbers. thats pretty shit but either do that or just leave it and it'll probably stop.

unfortunely, the compagny won't give the number, it's not allowed, but you have to talk about this problem with a lot of people, i think it's a good way to intimidate this person if it's someone in your school for exemple, she will sure hear about this ... ! you don't have a screen on your phone to check the number ?

Caller ID is a great thing, and if they block their number, just request that you don't receive blocked phone calls.

I think that they do in certain circumstances. If you contact them they may be able to give you the number, but it would probably have to involve the police.

The number could be traced to an address, so you'd soon know if it was someone who lives near you.

I would suggest Caller ID. That way, next time they call you - you have THEIR number and THEIR name. Unless its private, in that case - let the answering machine get it. And if its someone special, like family, or the lottery man telling you you just won a million bucks - they will leave a message. If they dont, dont worry about it.

Or, you can get your phone number changed. Thats drastic, but sometimes thats the only other alternative.

Hope you and your family get everything straightened out so you're all happy again!

only if the law is different in uk, but here, no chance !!
once i even recorded someone who was calling me frequently, his calls were disgusting, and only if the chief prosecutor decides to pursue this person, then the telecom must give the number, but it's rare, really !

As far as I know it can be done here. If you are receiving persistent prank calls from the same source, it is possible to get the number from the company.

I think it would involve the police if it was threatening calls, but I think it would be possible.

Just like you can report spammers to Hotmail.

I'm guessing it would HAVE to involve the police....

We were recieving prank calls, which we think may have been kids that both my Dad, and me give up our free time to teach and coach in swimming (typical, you try to help people )....

Anyway, we phoned BT, who basically told us there's nothing they can do, except to have the call blocked, which is a service you need to pay for (bloody capitalists).

Maybe you can get the number if it was at all threatening, and you're willing to involve the police, and insist something is done, otherwise, just get the block on... They'll get bored pretty soon, so I'm guessing after a month or so blocking the call you could cancel the service and recieve no more calls.....

Also, being Italian is very cool, you shouldn't be mocked for this!!!!!!!!
