Man, this made me so mad... There are 2 ways of handling it. One, caller ID and an answering machine. Write down every, and I mean every, number that you don't know. Then call the operator and ask who lives at those numbers. Or look the numbers up on the web. Then there's my prefered solution: Fight back. Next time they call, pick it up and tell them that you know where THEY live, and you're going to have to visit them sometime. Preferably between the times of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Don't bluster about it, just be very simple and calm. Don't tell them how you know, just tell them that either they stop, or you do something about it, that won't involve law enforcement. Threaten them. Also, get them on the phone and talk to them for as long as possible. Stall. Record the conversations on a tape recorder(make sure not to say anything incendiary on tape). Try and memorize the voice. Old, young, male, female, accent, depth of voice, any odd characteristics. Then listen to people at your school. Do you have any enemies at school? Anyone who's jealous of you? Also, try and think of anywhere where they could get your name, number etc. and then track each of those links.

Also, watch your street like a hawk. You can buy fake video cameras for real cheap, and you could put 1 or 2 of those on your house. Motion lights too. In short, since you don't know who it is, you can't involve the police, or even if you could, the police probably couldn't do anything about it, since no real crime has been committed. Yeah, they could talk to them, and that might make it stop, but it might also tick them off.

Hope this helps,

Adrian

In England, if you withhold a call, then the person you call can't get that number. Even if you phone up the phone company, you still can't get it, whatever the circumstances are. If you withold a number, all caller displays e.t.c will just say 'number unavailable', and you just can't get it...

As for recognising the voice, if I knew who it was, and the kid wasn't too young, and break his legs, but thus far I haven't recognised the voice...

It's one of those shit situations, where there's nothing anybody can do it seems.... just hope whoever's doing it gets bored soon

I still think slippery86 should start playing mind games with this guy. Play the callers game. He's dealing with human scum and should treat them as such. If every time this guy calls, he's enlightened as to the next way his life is going to be screwed up, or the life of someone close to him, he's gonna stop, especially if slippery86 can trace this guy back through the links he used to get his name, address, phone number.

children don't work this way.... If you start telling them how you're gonna 'make them pay', or say anything back, it becomes even more of a game. The best reaction is to not even say hello, just wait for them to go, that way it will become boring for them, and they're more likely to stop. Start reacting and you just make them do it more.

BBut you see you can't track them, that's the whole point... Maybe I've justed missed the point, but Slippery86 doesn't know who they are right? If yuo live in the UK, you just can't get that number, the only chance you have of identifying them is if you can recognise the voice, but if you can't then you're stuck.

He should have his father respond. An adult male saying you're going to pay for stalking my family carries more weight than a 16 year old saying it. Or have an older sounding friend talk to them. Ignoring them is like ignoring a bully, I tried that many times over several years, and all it does is give them a feeling of power.

About tracking them, he should find every place where his number could've been given out. Was it in the school paper? Did anyone ask about him at the school office? Has anyone asked any of his friends for his number? That sort of thing.

It really doesnt... They have the power. You don't know who they are, you can't find out who they are, and they know this! If his Dad says something they'll say something insulting to him... He can rant as much as he likes about killing the little ****ers, but they know that even if he wanted to, he couldn't because he doesn't know who they are... Believe me, kids won't get frightened by a grown up voice, it will make the game more fun because they're 'getting' to you more....

As for it being like bullying it's not really... If they're scared of you phisically, i.e they woudln't do anything to your face, or wouldn't do it if they thought you knew who they were, then they're hardly bullys... Still no better, sill scum, but I wouldn't class them as bullys... at the end of the day, I'm guessing whoever it is, is probably some little toad, who hasn't got hte guts to say things to people, and knows full well that the person they're playing with is bigger, brighter and better than themselves, hense the need to hide.

YOu see by responding, you're giving them power. You're showing them that they're getting to you, and that you're frustrated, upset e.t.c. If they don't get a reaction, they're not getting to you, so you're not giving them the power!

In theory yes... I'm not popular in the slightest, I don't nessesarily have any real friends at college, yet there would still be many many people who over the last 15 years have at some oint got my phone number, and maybe given it to somebody else for whatever reason e.t.c. They get around. It may be somebody you havn't seen for years... They could go to the Yellow Pages, and find your number no problem... I got in touch with old schoolfriends for a band practice that way in the past. If you know their name, and address (which is even easyer to find), then you could get their number without any problems... Sure they could try asking people, but there are just so many places they could have gotten the number from, it would be impossiable to eliminate even a few of them.

This is just a really crappy situation. He should try asking around at school, see if anyone will give the little *edited by me* up. If he can't find them, there's nothing he can do, but it still wouldn't hurt to check some of the links.

Some bullies are smaller, and bully people mentally. I used to have real long hair, (I didn't like to get my hair cut) and other kids would torment me about that. I could've beaten them into the ground (the last one who insulted me, I did) and they knew it, but they still continued to insult me. Not responding didn't give them power, it gave them the go-ahead. Sort of like, "I don't care, insult me some more, my feelings don't matter." My mom used to say, don't let them walk on you, don't let them throw cement pies in your face time after time... You have nothing to lose in threatening them. If it inflames them, well, its not like they were going to quit anyway. If it scares them, that's great. You got nothing to lose by threatening these creeps. Or better yet, someone they're close to. Ask if they have a girlfriend (assuming its a guy). Its easy to be nonchalant about a threat if its yourself, but when its someone who's close to you... it gets to you... Get them angry and on the defensive for a change.
