Actually it's been since 1908 not 1918. I'd guess that Yankee fans would be touchy too if they hadn't bought their last 26 rings and are preparing to buy another. That's what you do when you have a skyhigh payroll of $200 million and want to ensure that you can pay all the best players. MLB needs a salary cap.
About this guy...I feel bad for him. He wasn't even able to go to work afterward and he was hiding somewhere. It was reported that the Cubs gave him a new jacket. Funniest part of all is that he didn't even end up with the ball. He deflected it and it bounced out of his hands and another fan wound up with it. Truth be told, his interference in the play was the turning point of the game...but he shouldn't be held responsible. It's not his fault they lost the next night, but try telling that to angry Cubs fans.
