Default Prostitutes Murdered

BBC News:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/suffolk/6175669.stm

Officers investigating the murder of three prostitutes and the discovery of two more suspected victims have removed one body from woodland near Ipswich.

The body has been taken away by Suffolk Police to establish the cause of death and the victim's identity.

Police said it was likely the body, found close to another in Levington, is one of two missing prostitutes.

Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29, have not been seen for several days.

The other body is likely to remain at the scene - which is off the A14 - until Thursday morning.

Detectives said the victims had not died at the scenes, but their bodies had been dumped in the wooded areas where they were found.

Police have linked the murders of Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, and Anneli Alderton, 24, whose bodies were found in nearby villages within 10 days.

Det Ch Supt Stewart Gull said all five deaths bore "striking similarities" in that the women had been found naked and in a rural environment.

A number of people are helping police with their inquiries, but no-one has been arrested.

Officers are working through more than 2,000 calls made on Tuesday in what is now the biggest criminal inquiry in Suffolk Police's history.

Mr Gull said specialists, including blood and soil experts, were at the woodland in Levington where the two bodies were found.

Home Office pathologist Dr Nat Carey, who carried out post-mortems examinations on the three murdered prostitutes, will examine the bodies.

But Mr Gull said it was unlikely police would confirm on Wednesday the identities of the bodies.

"We have not found what appear to be murder scenes," he said. "We are dealing with sites where the bodies have been dumped and left."

A picture of the prostitutes working in the area and their clients was gradually being built up, the officer said.

He added: "It is important that if anyone has concerns for the safety of a prostitute in Ipswich that they contact us immediately."

Despite appeals for the women to keep off the streets, there are some continuing to work through desperation for money to buy drugs and Christmas presents.

Home Secretary John Reid and Downing Street have contacted Suffolk's Chief Constable Alastair McWhirter to make sure he has enough resources to deal with the current murder inquiry.

The prime minister's spokesman said officials were assured Mr McWhirter was "happy" with the level of resources he had.

At Commons question time, the prime minister said there was "entirely understandable fear" in the community in Ipswich and said all MPs would want to send their sympathy to the people of Suffolk and the relatives of the victims.

The sites where the two bodies were found on Tuesday is off the main A14 trunk road between Ipswich and Felixstowe docks close to a railway line, the Orwell estuary and a marina.

It is near to where the body of Miss Alderton who had moved to the area from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, was found on Sunday in Nacton.

The body of Miss Adams was found on 2 December in woodland at Hintlesham, on the outskirts of Ipswich. She had last been seen on 15 November.

On 8 December the body of Miss Nicol was found in nearby Copdock. She was the first to go missing and had last been seen on 30 October.

I know a couple of people who live around the area ... it's quite scary

On another board I post on, this has started a debate about whether prostitution should be legalized ... what do people think?

its all happening in my back yard.... the murderer must be local to know where to leave the bodies as at night time these areas are pitch black .

What I dont understand is why the media have not mentioned a link to a similar murder here 7 yrs ago.

because they didnt catch this killer I guess I dont feel positive about them catching anyone now.

+1 to The Walrus's idea of legalization.

Not that I would partake, mind you...It's always struck me as patently absurd that I can legally talk up anybody in any public place, retire to their or my domcile, engage in any act of carnality imagineable, and then go our seperate ways after a few hours, never meeting again, never even knowing the other's name. However, give them a bill or two before or after the same act, and it's criminal. Whoever wrote that law should be beaten about the head, shoulders, and crotch. Give them something to focus on besides foisting their morality on everyone else.

Back on topic, perhaps if your killer were to know he had a fair chance of receiving a blade or three slugs in the chest, or even a jolt from a Taser or shot of bear spray, he'd think twice about butchering people. Reap what you sow I guess.

I didn't know that Dawn. I heard they were talking to a mother of a girl that was murdered 14 years ago .
I do think that prostitution should be legalized then it would take away alot of the risk and also stop alot of the crime associated with it

it should be legalised but it won;t stop crime related to it russ. if you've ever been anywhere where y0ou get legal brothels or streetwalking is legal, you'll realise it's still the shady characters in the backrooms running things.

i wouldn't like a system like amsterdam, it's just too seedy and it's kind of disturbing to see kids walking around when you;ve got folk selling all sorts of illegal consumable, sex shops and obviously the girls in the windows.

eastern european countries seem to have it down, their brothels are just like our strip clubs except you get extras obviously. they're kind of discreet ie they're not in your face like the windows in amsterdam, the girls are safe because it;s inside and there's security there and it's not out on the streets so if you object to it, it doesn't really matter.

i dont see why it should be legalised! first of all its kinda degrading for anyone to live there life through selling there bodies! IMO it just show how the lack of respect they have for themselfs! and then they guy who goes out and buys one well how sad do you have to be!

who here would want their daughter growing up 2 sell themselves on the street? i dout anyone here would! because theres just something inside urself that knows its wrong!

also i was watching the news yestertday and most them of just seem to do it so they can carry on with there drug habit! and its more than smoking dope!

i dont see how legalising it will make things any better!

it's their bodies if they're willing to sell them then who are we to stop them?

what;s the difference between a prostitute and a porn star except one does it infront of cameras? porns perfectly legal and legitimate.

plus your attitude is just the result of the socialisation we recieve towards prostitution here. abroad it's regulated, legal, no one bats an eyelid about it and it puts many soon to be doctors and lawyers through university.

Of course you don't want to become a prostitute or want your daughter to become one, but if they are I think they should have some form of protection. At least here with prostitution, with it being legal, at least they have police protection and they are monitored have regular AIDS and STD tests and work for themselves (including paying taxes!)
