Protected CDs and iTunes

I have a couple of CDs that need to download a license in order to play/copy onto my PC. WMP does all it needs to do automatically, I just plop in the CD and click 'yes' a couple of times and it works magic.

However, my problem is that I want to download the songs onto my iTunes so that I can put it on my iPod.

Does anybody know how I can do that?

(alternatively, do you even understand my question )

I have iTunes and iPod .. if I put a cd into my computer it's automatically downloaded on iTunes ... if not (like for you when it's WMP) I cannot download them on iTunes unless I audio jack them (with a program called audiojack) I audiojack the WMP songs they become simple MP3 and then can be downloaded into iTunes...

nope I don't think so.

I do the same as you for all regular CDs.

However, some CDs you cannot download onto your PC without a certain license code. My WMP detects and initiates the requirements and I see how it goes out to the internet and finds the appropriate license - then it downloads it onto WMP. My iTunes, however, is clueless about it and will simply download the tracks onto iTunes. If the tracks are merely downloaded without the license code, the tracks are distorted and unlistenable.

Ever came across that?

Ie. My Velvet Revolver CD is like that and now my beloved Kasabian as well

i understand that iTunes doesn't read WMP for example when this happen i just have to audiojack what is my WMP playing .. it become then a regular mp3 and my macintosh download any mp3 into iTunes tracks (and any iTunes track is downloadable into my iPod automatically ....) the single called 4 to the Floor (starsailor) is like that ... not downloadable into iTunes unless you audiajack it ...

hmmm, maybe I don't understand you correctly.

I have no problem downloading the tracks onto iTunes. The problem is that iTunes will not acquire the appropriate license for those tracks - hence the copied tracks are distorted. It makes no difference if I copy them straight from the CD or from my media player - the tracks cannot be copied without a license - they can, but no correctly, hence you cannot listen to them.

My iTunes will just go out and detect all wmp files and convert them into iTunes files. No problem there in general. For the few that actually require a license, though, the tracks are distorted.

Can you not rip the cd's using another program? I use dbpoweramp if I ever use mp3.

If you turn off autorun you can use the cd as a normal cd. I learned that last summer with the new Velvet Revolver CD. It installed a program on my hard drive that required a verification and even then would only let me rip mp3s - not wav files. I did some looking online and found the name of the program it installed and deleted it, then I disabled autorun in the registry. From then on that cd acted like any other cd and I have had no problem with "protection" (for them) since.

If you have not disabled auto run and have installed the scrambling software on your computer - search for a file called SbcpHid it is in the Windows\System32\Drivers folder. Delete it and that will take care of the problem. Then follow the steps in the following article to disable autorun.

this is what I understand ... exactly .. Itunes can't play this ... if you want to put them on iTunes you need to do like i said or like Neil said transform those files into something iTunes can read ...

when I try to listen to this single I have it never shows up on iTunes BUT on WMP as i am using a mac t(he talkin,g about not getting a licence and b la bla bla doesn't pop up as a user they think I can't do anything and it's pointless ... so the result is that I have to audiojack what my WMP is playing then it will become mp3 that then can be downloadable on my iTunes automatically

I can't help you but it's something I find quite puzzling - the boost of mp3 players goes hand in hand with the boost of protected CDs. Ha
