Never buy protected CD's. You can usually get an unprotected version or copy the songs somewhere.

You can easily turn of the autorun by holding down shift while inserting the disk. Then just rip it to whatever format you want.

I'll try that and I'll try Kathleens suggestion tomorrow.

As for your statement of 'never to buy a protected cd' --- I don't think we have a choice here.

Yeah, same here. What does the label say to differentiate it from the protected ones? "This one you can rip!"

I also don't think there is option here(its hard enough to get a cd in first place lol). I have this RHCP greatest hits, which copyright protected and has in build-in player and i can't run it other then that player and i can't find a place where the songs are in a album.... Any idea where these songs hiden in the cd?.

I don't usually encode cd's to mp3, but with all this fuss I tried few. No problem whatsoever. I tested some 10 copy protected cd's, old and new, and all of them got processed ok. So what's the actual problem?

I'd suggest you to try using different software . And disable autorun for good. U can never know what crap can harmless cd install without u knowing it.

Yes, we do. All the copy protected CDs need to be clearly marked. If it has a copy protection, don't buy it, copy it from someone.

Like I said, all copy protected CDs have to have a clear marking that they are copy protected. In EU you can return a copyprotected CD to the store and you get your money back.

They're not hidden. There's 2 parts on the CD, the data part and the audio part. If you use the autoplay, you will never see the audio part. If you disable the autoplay and use a program like CDex to rip the CD you'll get the audio.

Configure Device Manager by clicking "Show hidden devices" and "Devices by connection," both from the View menu.
Insert the Anthony Hamilton CD into the computer and allow the SunnComm software to start. If MediaMax has never been started before on the same computer, the SbcpHid [NOTE I searched for this program and just deleted it Kathleen] driver should appear on the list for the first time. However, on some systems Windows needs to be rebooted before the driver becomes visible.
At this point you can attempt to copy tracks from the CD with applications like MusicMatch Jukebox or Windows Media Player. Copies made while the driver is active will sound badly garbled, as in this 9-second clip [10].

Next, follow these additional steps to disable MediaMax:

Select the SbcpHid driver from the Device Manager list and click "Properties" from the Action Menu.
Click the Driver tab and click the Stop button to disable the driver.
Set the Startup Type to "Disabled" using the dropdown list.

With the driver stopped, you can verify that the same applications copy every track successfully. Setting the Startup Type to disabled prevents MediaMax from restarting when the computer is rebooted. It will remain deactivated until LaunchCD.exe is allowed to run again.
This successfully worked for me. I am listening to the CD right now through windows media player, without the protection running. I've also archived the CD into my system so that if I ever lose it I have a copy for myself!
It is still not working. I did all the above, but when I try to rip the tracks they play completely distorted

It totally annoys me that I would have to illegally download these songs that I have already paid for, only to be able to put them on my iPod!!!

Is simply copy protection the same as needing a license code?

I can download all tracks, no problem - however they don't play right - they are distorted. Unless the actual license code is attached to the file (may not be technically correct but that is how I envision it in my head), it will not play correctly.
