It wasn't SACD it was dts - here is my original post:

There is a program that will let you play dts from your computer. I have a 6.1 surround sound card with fiber optic output that I connect to a surround amplifier. I still need a separate player for SACD though. I should remember the program name but I don't and I'm not at that computer but I'll post it when I find it. And yes - the 5.1 mix of Bounce is very good.

The program name is VLC from VideoLan and it can be downloaded free here:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I wish I had a computer based something for playing SACD but that is set up using 6 mono inputs and I use a surround player to do that. Try that player though, it is very useful for all sorts of stuff. Some people in the Rush community have created dts wav files from multiple recordings of the same show that are truly incredible considering that they are bootlegs. There are some Dave Matthew dts wav shows too.

I actually meant ages ago in another thread lol, I'm sure you mentioned something about it but most likely I misunderstood.

I can play dts in PowerDVD or WinDVD I think, even 96/24 (it's pointless with small speakers which are probably only 16khz anyway), and I can extract dts to 6 mono waves or a 5.1 wave using DVD-Audio Extractor.

I also have a dts encoder for making either 44.1khz dts cds or 48khz dts dvd tracks.

Yes I play DVDs with Power DVD (through my surround receiver) but the VLC program will play audio dts wav files without running through a surround amplifier.
I'll check out the program that you mentioned - I'm always messing around with audio, sometimes just to see what I can do with it.

Like I said, all copy protected CDs have to have a clear marking that they are copy protected. In EU you can return a copyprotected CD to the store and you get your money back.

You can return anything not just protected CDs, can't you?

But as I said I think it's very silly that the increase in the number of protected CDs is similar to the increase in sale of mp3 players.

over here you cannot return cds unless they have not been openend - but at that point you don't know if it is protected or not - here at least.

It's the same here. Though once I returned a CD (I hadn't copied it, just bought it, listened to it and realised it was awful) that had been unwrapped. I put on a very sad face and said I had got it as a present and the person who had given it to me had unwrapped it. I handed in the receipt and instead of money they made me a voucher, which was almost as good.

You can know whether the CD is protected or not. It's usually on the back and says something like "this CD won't play on a computer" or "This CD is copy protected" or whatever. But there's nothign you can do. As I say no CD is going to say "you found the pea in the pod, lucky one, you can rip this CD!"
