I'm against the death penalty, even when it concerns one of the most evil men in modern times. Hussein is still worshiped my many back where he ruled, this is going to stir things up and make matters worse.

there is no doubt that in general it is more expensive to kill someone than to keep them in prison for their entire life. i agree that by killing him the state is commiting the same crime. keep the bastard alive in solitary till he takes his last breath , that is much more of a punishment than sticking a rope round his neck.

bush is going to make a statement about this in a few minutes i wonder how much he will gloat? winning the war on terror? , same as usual i expect.

I agree with what many have said; the death penalty is too quick, too easy. Prisons should be brought down to poverty level. Someone who has commit rape or murder or any other serious charge shouldn't be allowed the luxury of sitting watching TV or having food that is even tolerable. They should sit alone in a dark, cold cell with just the bare minimum food to keep them alive so they can do nothing but think about what they did.

I think by handing out death sentences, then they are bringing themselves down to Saddam's level of thinking. There is a reason why we abolished it in this country & it always surprises me when such a god fearing country as the US docide it is right to play god & decide if people live or die.

Also, looking at the news, the Sunni's were celebrating & the Shia's demonstrating. It's not going to help relieve any of the tensions. I don't see what was wrong in putting him in a cell & throwing away the key.

Sure they do but that doesn't mean the US people and the Iraqi people have the same conception of death and death penalty, that's what I meant.

I guess i seem to be the minority so far. I am for the DP. If you had someone you loved who was killed/raped/ tortured etc. wouldn't you want them to pay for what they did? I'm sorry but serial killers don't sit their in prison feeling guilty for what they did. Serving a life sentence doesn't bother them. Prisoners often have it way too easy. They get a lot of special privleges that i know i don't agree with at all. Yeay it must suck to sit there in jail but did you know that they can get tv's for their cells, choose their meals, are able to have cigarettes, they even are given candy on Christmas! They also get paid to work in prison as well. As for the DP in certain states (like CA) there are so many people waiting there on Death Row they usually wind up dying of old age anyway.

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

What if they didn't have access to TV and books and things to do? If they had cold, damp cells and horrible food? Would that be better? That is what I think they should have. If it happened to me, someone I loved getting hurt or killed, I would rather know the culprit was sat rotting away with nothing to do their whole life.

I have read many statements by victims' relatives where they say they don't want other people, other families to go through what they ahve done, regardless of the pain they have caused them.

I guess you can't say unless you're in that situation, but I'm quite certain I wouldn't want someone else to die whatever they had done to me. Go to jail, yes. But whatever you do to them, you're not getting your loved one back.

I'd want that to die yes, probably would want to kill him/her myself, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. You can't rule justice in a fair way if your judgement is based on your emotions.

I agree some prisoners (it's far frombeing the case in all prisons) get to much "privileges" to my taste too, I still wouldn't want to be in their shoes, and I don't believe these "privileges" actually make their lives any easier.

Therefore the DP sentence is useless...
