Many Bush voters think their best interest is security, and that that needs a war "for freedom" and to forbid gay marriage and abortion, rather than fair plans for everyone, inside and outside the borders.

You know, a thousandth of all Nato countries military budget, that's far less than what's been granted by Congress for the war in Iraq, also far less then the money that will be spent to just seek oil in Alaska, could ensure access to potable water for the 1.5 to 2 billion people on Earth that do not have such facilities right now.

Like ponrauil said, a lot of people don't understand what their best interest is. Particularly when we are talking tax cuts. People hear tax cust for the individuals, they don't have the knowledge or the desire to actually find out how those tax cuts benefit them - they just assume they get to pay less taxes. When in reality, it is the super rich that get the cuts and the rest of us has to pick up the tab. Also, some of the tax cuts that might translate into a direct dollar benefit into our (middle class) pocket books, that is all most people care about. They don't ask where that money comes from and where and how we have to make up for the cut overall taxes lost through this particualr cut. People don't want to think that far.

Also, a lot of people vote for an image they have, not for or against politics. They might, for whatever reason, identify with the current president, thinking he is a 'down to earth' guy, like we working class..... hehehehehe..... People do not want to have to bother with deciphering tax law propositions, they want to believe that the guy in the denim jacket with the southern accent 'is one of them' and will do 'what is right'.

I am shocked at how many women are against abortion ... the only reason they come up with is that it is against their belief and they cannot vote against their religious belief. Sad really, cause those same religions are against killing innocent people, yet the individuals are pro-war and pro-death sentence..... It's a very mixed up / confused world....

As far as environmental laws are concerned, I do think that this country lacks a fundamental education on how to protect our natural environment and why it is important to do so.

Yes, as evidenced by the new tax bill introduced. Tax givaways to the richest 1% by taking it away from the middle class.... (or as some tax people would argue 'stick it to the blue states')
