nope plants are actually living, just because they don';t breathe or communicate the way we know doesn't mean they aren't alive.

and i didn't miss the point being made maria I was just raising the issue that most people don't have an issue with cows and whatnot being butchered horribly for meat (which they are) but they do with other animals.

doesn't matter what the use is, they're all being killed.
yes Jim, people do have issues with cows being butcherd in a horrible fashion. That is why people get their meat from organic ranches that kill their animals in an uncruel way.

Do you really not see the difference in clubbing a baby seal vs. shooting a cow in the head with one bullet that was raised on a farm.

here are some pics. i know the seals may get more attention coz ''theyr cuter'' etc and that may be true, but it doesnt change the fact that there are some 'people' out there who treat animals barbarically, whatever the animal.

The way they kill the animals depends on the country. If I remember correctly there's a very strict directive in the EU that states that all the animals must be killed as quickly and painless as possible.

Jim's just trying to piss you off. The cows are grown to be eaten, they live well get taken care of and when they're killed, it's done painlessly.

The seals are being hunted with sticks, killed by skinning and used only for their fur. How can anyone NOT see the difference?

I'm not saying I don;t see the difference but abattoirs aren't exactly a cows idea of paradise.

They're still being killed for our ends even if it is less painless than clubbing seals. it's still barbaric all the same.

Just got this by mail:

Nationwide protest against Red Lobster on Saturday

On Saturday, June 25th, animal lovers across the US and Canada will stage protests outside of various Red Lobster restaurant locations. Currently the largest seafood chain restaurant in the United States, Red Lobster has so far refused to boycott Canadian seafood in order to pressure Canada to stop its annual seal hunt..

The boycott and the protest against Red Lobster are led by the Protect Seals Network, a coalition of non-profit organziations that are trying to stop the brutal and unnecessary slaughter of over 300,000 seals annually in Canada. This action is being taken only after years of negotiations with Canada failed.

Click here to find an event near you:
http://www.wspa-usa.org/pages/616_re..._of_action.cfm

"Canada exports the bulk of its seafood each year to the United States," said WSPA Campaigns Manager Susan Sherwin. "Red Lobster has substantial buying power and could be instrumental in pressuring the Canadian government to stop the baby seal hunt."

You can help convince Red Lobster to join in the boycott and wield their influence to help save Canada's baby seals. We hope you'll consider either joining in a planned protest or writing a letter to companies that buy Canadian seafood.

Companies already participating in the boycott:

Legal Seafoods
Marks and Spencer
Whole Foods

Can't make it to the protest on Saturday? You can still help the seals, by writing to Red Lobster and other influential companies that have not yet signed on to the boycott.

Click here to write letters to companies who could influence Canada's decision about seal hunting:
