This is obviously a matter of what you (or I) consider "moderate". Yes - I consider this administration VERY right wing. I am one of those old fashioned people who believe in the seperation of church and state. I have never seen an administration (Democratic or Republican) in my years of watching that has pandered to the evangelical Christians as much as this one has. I'm not talking about a basic belief in the church of your choice - I'm talking about Evangelical Christians as a political block trying to change the landscape of the country I live in. School textbooks (in some areas) have been revised to eliminate any discussion of evolution and to include "intelligent design". Please - what is intelligent about refuting science? Any government that refuses to allow stem cell research based on religious principles is also far right (in my opinion).

Points taken. However, I don't think the stem cell debate is solely based on religion. Common American ethics don't always line up with religion, which I'm sure you know. It's kind of like the abortion debate. Anyway, what about all the defiicit spending? Or the Patriot Act? Both of those are not even close to standard conservative policies.

Exactly my point - the policies of this administration are not even in line with central Republican thinking. They are (again in my opinion) fringe politicians - not mainstream. Deficit spending is a favorite tactic of the Democrats but it was Clinton that balanced the budget (whatever you think of his sexual habits)

And the Patriot Act would be bashed all over the place for invasion of privacy if a Democrat had come up with it. Let's keep the politicians out of my life thanks - that includes the Patriot Act.

As I said - I prefer politicians with a more centrist (and inclusive) attitiude from either party. I'm happy to see many of them go.

Let's make it 5 beers. I'll be in England/London quite often during 2007 so we'll maybe get to meet.

People should stop putting any sort of idea on a left/right spectrum. There certainly are democrats who are against gay marraige, this doesn't men they are any more right than those who aagree with it. Banning stem research is not left or right IT IS STUPID and there certainly is a considerable number of republicans who would make it legal and fund it immediately. Just because it was made an issue by the demcocrats does not mean it is a LEFT issue.

Somebody sad this was quite a moderate riht-wing regime. I would definitely agree with that. Just think of the Reagan era. Milton Friedman was a genius - neo-liberalism, that's what I call rightist politics. Now what exactly were the big economic changes in the Bush era? What changes in taxation were made?

And all the "made the rich richer and the poor poorer" bullshit. Cut the crap. There's no Robin Hoods anymore as there is no "free lunch". I guess you expect an administration to "take from the rich and give to the poor" - disgusting!
"Whoever trades equality for freedom will end up with neither!" - said a very smart guy! The Republicans obviously did not try to trade anything.

And as much as I hate religion being considered a reason for doing certain things(like going to war or forbidding stem research), the Republicans did a fairly good job in the given circumstances. I seriously doubt that the Democrats would have handled the years past 9/11 better. Of course, this costs popularity, this costs political capital and if the Democrats won't screw up really badly now that they controll the House, they will enter the White House(not with Hillary though - a woman that was cheated by her husband around a zillion times and still sticked with him - the Republicans will trash her). Yes, and? Just think of Vietnam, just think of the Gulf War. Republicans came back, as they will do this time.

And here is a Political Quiz, for those who would like to know how left/right they are. (see HORIZONTAL axe)

Hilary doesn't have a shot in he** of becoming president. The fact that she is a woman is already a strike against her along with the fact that her husband is as shady as they come. His administration didn't do anything outstanding and was chock full of corruption. This will reflect on her. Also, her fake, robotic voice drives me insane!!

Unfortunately corruption seems to be equally spread around both parties. And as I pointed out in an earlier thread - whatever you think of Clinton's sexual habits - he not only balanced the budget - he left office with a surplus. This is something that Republicans used to think was good. Considering the state the countries finances were in after the first Gulf war, I would call that outstanding.

Oh no doubt he did some good things along with the bad. To be quite honest, I think all politicans suck equally.

Q: How many people has Bush replaced in his Cabinet in 6 years?

A: Every one of his members of Cabinet.

I don't believe such a record has been seen before. It says a lot on the quality of this administration.
