I'm not suggesting people don't get given help - but when people commit rape, murder, other violent crimes, and get out of jail within 15 years is that really a 'fair' punishment? Longer jail sentences in this country would make a difference I think.
I don't agree with the death penalty, but I think for murder a person should be locked up and left to stew. If they were willing to take the life of another then their own should be forfeit. Also, they shouldn't have tv and libraries and gyms and things like they do, at the taxpayers expense. I even heard that the average prison meal costs more than the average school meal in this country for ****s sake!

he's a UK citizen, where are we goign to send the tens if not hundreds of thousands of UK criminals once they're realsed??.....

i'm not agreeing with the guy or his actions in any way but exactly how or why should we deport him to a country he barely knows?

if you were born in japan but had living in england since the age of 6, had a british passport, full british citizenship etc... would you regard yourself as japanese?

That would certainly be an unusual thing to do

Looks like i'm in the minority here and its almost like you feel sorry for him if he gets sent back to Italy but i just cannot feel that way .To me hes committed the worst crime going and by rights should never be released but to beable to stay here and enjoy the privilages of England aswell to me seems wrong . So what if he doesnt know or even like Italy? hes killed an inocent man for no reason why should he be given rights?? . Fine if you want to fight for his rights go ahead but i will never do such a thing.

i don't feel sorry for him in the slightest and i totally empaphise with his family but deportation is just not a viable thing to do.

he's a UK citizen for a start, we don't usually deport UK criminals back to their country of origin...

do you think italy will want to take him back? even if the british government wanted to, there's a decent chance italy would tell them to piss off.

If UK citizenship rules changed then it would mean human rights rules would have changed worlwide which would mean citizenship rules would also change and we'd have to accept other countries sending UK born criminals back to the UK after the end of their custodial sentances - there'd be more criminals travelling every day than innocent people!

The guy isn't staying in the UK based on his individual case, he's staying here based on the rules that govern this country and apply to every citizen here.

How far back do you take it though Russ? What if someone's great great great grandparents came from another country? Would you want them to be deported for something that is just as out of their control as in this instance?

As for fighting for his rights, well like you I believe that he shouldn't deserve any - but to send him to a country he probably doesn't even remember, just because he was born there, is pure lunacy.
