I'm sorry Mike, but I don't think about this god for saken war every second of my waking hours. Maybe I should, it is increadibly important, but inspite of the fact people are dying, I'm still watching the Sopranoes, the football, listeneing to music, and anylising The Rime Of the Ancient Mariner for an essay due in tomorrow morning. Not everything has to revolve around this war, and people need to have the distractions.
I don't think it's that powerful a tool, because at the end of the day, peole don't go to a Bon Jovi concert to listen to what they have to say, they go becaue they love the music, and they want to enjoy the music. Now peole going to a Springsteen concert want to see him, hear his views, as well as enjoy the music, so it works. I want my distraction, I dont' want to watch the news and see all this happening, turn on the radio and hear about it all the time, and then escape from it, go out, and have it rammed down my throat from Bon Jovi!!!! This is why rock music is so important that it stays seperate. It's escapism for people, they can turn their back on what they are feeling, what is happening, and truely enjoy something for 2-3 hours, with no constraints, no clouding views, or taking offense, nothing but sheer music, and enjoyement. These things are more important now than ever, and I don't want my concerts to loose this.
If the issue is that important to the band, if they're that committed to it that they want to use their fame to spread the word, why not do a stop the war tour? Play concerts for free, and sing war protest songs... It's somethign I think they've done without really thinking about.... They're not a political band, so yes, they should worry about offending a few people!
