I bet they wouldn't, which is why the ban is now in place.

We are talking seconds per day here, rather than several hours bar-staff are currently exposed to.
Well 50 years ago Doctors advocated smoking, now they say it's bad, perhaps 50 years from now they'll discover it's worse than we ever thought. The fact is that it smells and is bad, and no-one should be forced to be part of that in their job - for a second, a minute, an hour, not at all.

I don't get the bus anymore, it's ridiculously expensive here, so I walk or get the train

If you outright declare smoking as "bad" the many people who have enjoyed smoking at somepoint in their lives and recognise that their are benefits to the individual will lose all respect for your argument from that point on. However valid your point is.

Not that second-guessing the scientific advances of the next 50 years is much of an argument.

Leave those jobs for the smokers. There's enough to go around.

Sorry, benefits? What possible benefit could there be to smoking? Unless you want to die of lung cancer and enjoy the horrible smell and yellow teeth it will give you.

Doesn't matter if a person smokes or not. Just because they choose to do it in their private life doesn't mean that they should be subjected to it at work.

Please tell me you're winding us up here??? So Bar workers deserve to die earlier do they??? I have a well paid, responsible 9-5 job. However because it is nigh on impossible to afford to live alone on one wage I work in a bar to supplement my earnings, mainly to be able to afford to go on on holidays, run a car etc. Apart from anything else I actually enjoy it.

If I collect glasses I shouldnt have to feel like ive just appeared on stars on their eyes and go through a cloud of smoke to get to the tables. Its completely selfish. Smokers can go 2 hours in the pictures, probably in most cases 4 hours at work and 12 hours on a plane without a cigerette so why do they find it so difficult in a pub??!!

cos for the most part they're cunts who think having non smokers not go to pubs at all is a much more reasonable compromise than themselves standing outside to indulge in their filthy habit for 40 seconds.

give it 6 weeks and none of the smokers will even care that they have to stand outside, i gaurantee it.

But why a pub if you feel so strongly? Why not work at the chippy (or a non smoking pub), trade on ebay, get a paper round or shack up with a sugar-daddy?

Public = place where people from all walks of life and with all interests can gather to share them openly

House = place where people relax and feel at home.

Puplic House = place where people can go to act as they choose without interference from the state.

Fine, I'll take a sword with me and chop peoples arms off - why should the state interfere, it's a public house right?

Bottom line - smoking is bad for you and those around you, and it smells bad, thus you should not inflict it on others.

You can do better than that
