Default So, how was your night?

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/msurba...dK0GCBGCvvoT7N

A tornado (or probably two given the layout of the damage) went through our property. I was up early this morning taking photos for insurance purposes.

I feel so blessed right now. I woke up around 1:30 because of the noise of the storm and I knew it was a tornado from the way the lightening was flashing constantly and the roar. I ran to the glassed in porch to get all the cats in the house since storms like this often blow windows out. At the time, my mom was in her bed scared to move because her bed is next to a window and she was afraid from the noise and pressure that it was about to blow out. My brother came up to the kitchen and said, "That doesn't sound good. Get back in here," and told me not to worry with the cats and I was freaking out, "That's a tornado! They can't stay in glass room!"

We had the kitchen window up and I was about 10 feet from it, but the wind was blowing rain inside pelting me like sand through the screen. We heard a lot of roaring, but the only thing we knew for sure was down was the television antenna. After things calmed down we walked outside and could tell there was some tin in the yard and "a tree" was down across the white picket fence. The tin barely missed my mother's brand new truck.

There wasn't much to do last night but wait out the rest of the squall line, but this morning we were in for a shock. "A tree" turned out to be several across the road and the picket fence. Across the road is the house my great-grandmother bought in the 1920's. The back part of one side is ripped off. The side wall on the other is ripped off at the bottom. The back has windows blown out.

Beside that house is the trailer where my great aunt Val lived. There's roof damage and a window broken in it. Behind those houses, there are trees broken and down. We had a working well for a long time and the shed next to it is flattened. There's what was a chicken house back in the 70's and the end of it is demolished. The tool shed next to it has damage. There is tin from the roof of the oldest house all over the property and up in the trees.

It floors me to see the line of trees down in front of our house because it indicates that one tornado was headed right for our house. It had to have lifted back up into the air just before it got to us. The damage to the trees behind Val's house and on into the pasture that would beside our yard indicates that there was a separate funnel going in that direction. Our house was spared but it looks like it was surrounded.

The link above will show you the photos I took this morning.

Judging from the photos, you were pretty lucky, Becky! It's amazing the power of Mother Nature.

And I thought I had a bad night because the heat wasn't working again

Glad you and your family are ok. Tornados are quite scary (not to mention destructive)!

Aw, Becky! I'm glad to hear you're okay after seeing the devastation it caused around you!

Also, even in that condition, I think you live in a beautiful spot!
