Hmm don't agree - I lived with a hostfamily near Madrid (Colmenar Vieijo) for a month and went to Madrid everyday to teach and then see the city and explore and I loved the city!

I'm going to Paris (for the first time in my life *ashamed*) for a few days in January .... Looking forward to it!

The city centre (around the Plaza Mayor) is alright, but the rest is not pleasant to walk in, it's boring and just a collection of houses one after the other, some nicer to look at, others totally awful. Perhaps it's different seen from the outside but I have never really liked Madrid like that.

Have fun in Paris!

Riga is not in Estonia, it's in Latvia I don't know much about Riga, but Tallinn (capital of Estonia) is a really nice place to come to in winter. And it's definately cheap here compared to other european countries.

that is quite a nice list. i would suggest budapest though. cheap, beautyful...simply amazing.

in any case, i'll be in london at the end of january and beginning of february so if you're there at that time, let me know.

P.S.Edit: sorry...saw to late that you are going to riga

riga's the place to be on account of digs and flights works out at about 45 quid and it's 20p a pint.

london's great, ill hopefully be able to go back there later in the year but i could easilly spend more in a day there than a full weekend in riga so it'll have to wait.
