If you have a soundcard with a digital coaxial or digital optical output and a surround system with a matching input you can connect a pc like that

XBox is just a PC. ANything you can get for XBox you can get for PC. You can buy a multimedia PC that does everything an XBox 360 does and more. You could for example wathc digital TV with it, and record the programs onto a hard disk, edit them and burn a DVD from it. Or download BJ bootleg DVDs and watch them straight on your TV. XBox 360 can't do that.

Why would you need internet? Not sure if the box comes with the wireless network adapter or not, but you'd need that. Nothing else.

The pc streams it to your xbox 360, which then plays the videos and audio over your tv system - whatever that might be - tv sound only or surround sound.

Yes, the xbox 360 is like a pc, but the beauty is that you only need one device for a myriad of functions - you don't need to buy seperate devices/parts, though you could.

Internet is where the music comes from...

Over the net, wireless. And it still requires wires from the box to the surround system. I know a _lot_ about these consoles, I'm working as a video games reviewer, and I just wrote an article about the new consoles.

Duh. XBox _is_ a PC. And you don't need to buy separate devices or parts, just buy one PC with everything in it. Think of it as a mega-XBox.

Xbox 360 is a great device, but there's nothing it can do that a regular PC couldn't. The marketing departement at Microsoft just wants people to believe that it's somehow better.
