A soft pillow is the worst he can do!! Soft pillows give no support whatsoever to his spine and it makes your spine curve. You need a special pillow as in a medical one (can't remember the name now....)

Tash
You're right! I don't know why I said soft pillow. I guess I was tired. What I meant to say was Firm pillow! Like Tash said, this will give support to your neck and back and help take pressure off your neck muscles. Most importantly though, make sure you're comfortable.

It sounds as though you have strained a muscle, which is done by sudden tears or stretches in muscle fibres. When this happens, bleeding occurs in the strained area of the muscle causing pain and swelling, as well as spasms in some people. To reduce the swelling, you need to apply ice to the strained area of muscle. I repeat, YOU NEED TO APPLY ICE. Also take inti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen to aid in the healing process. Eating large amounts of protein could also aid in the healing process, but not to a large extent.

Make sure you rest your neck for at least 48 hours. Don't do any kind of physical exercise, and try to sleep on your back as much as possible with a soft pillow.

And for the information of anyone else who reads this, if you have recently strained a muscle, i.e. in the past 48 hours, DO NOT APPLY HEAT!!

Hope this helps. Dave.
UMmm opps lol i went into a bath and then to work the next day....luckyly its almost gone today thorugh :P
