The free progams work as well as the ones you have to pay for. Like Neil said, most of the "spyware" they find are just tracking cookies etc. It's just a trick to get you to pay for something you don't need.

If you have a decent firewall and anti-virus software (that you should pay for to get dencent software), you don't really need any anti-spyware, as they all get noticed by the firewall or the anti-virus.

I use Norton 360 myself. It's "idiot proof" if you want it to be, just a few buttons and it's very safe. I used to have F-secure which was good as well, but it started to **** up Windows for some reason...

Yeah, I have Norton too and would recommend it. We had McAffee for a while and our PC suffered from the same sort of symptoms as Ice described so we ditched it.

We opted for the more expensive package but admittedly have little detailed knowledge about the added benefits it states at the bottom of the page. All I know is that it is extremely easy to use and we have had absolutely no problems with either intrusion from an outside source or with the software itself.

Somebody with a bit more tech experience may be able to enlighten you as to whether the extra features are worth the extra cash.

For that money, I'd say yes. There are not many technical differences, but the 360 is a bit easier to use and it comes with 2GB of free backup space on Nortons secure servers. Makes backing up very easy.
