Except for the fact that in the original book of Rturn of the Jedi, Obi Wan tells Luke that Anakin fell into a molten pit.

Also, GL sent someone down to Sicily when Mt Etna was erupting to get some footage.

There is no "original" book. There is a screenplay for the movie, that is the only official thing. And there's no volcano there. Anything not written by Lucas is not official in any way. Unless he says it's so, it isn't.

Here is an excerpt (sp) from Return Of The Jedi, which is an officially licensed version;

"What I saw what had become of him, I tried to dissaude him, to draw him back from the dark side. We fought ... your father fell into a molten pit. When your father clawed his way out of that fiery pool, the change had been burned into him forever - he was Darth Vader, without a trace of Anakin Skywalker. Iredeemably dark. Scarred. Kept alive only by machinery and his own black will..."

Officially licensed doesn't mean it's going to be in any movies or anywhere. All it means is that the writer has the right to use the name "Return Of The Jedi". If and because George Lucas hasn't written it, it's not anything more than the authors imagination. Lucas is the only one who decides how the story goes, no matter how "official" that book may be.

I'm not saying that is not the way it's going to be, but I seriously doubt it. But if that happens to be the truth, you can be sure that it wasn't the writer who came up with it, but George. But just because it's in a book NOW, I seriously doubt it will ever end up in a script.

So you don't think Anakin and Obi Wan fill fight, and then Anakin will fall into a volcano?

George Lucas did actually send someone to Mt Etna to get footage; a lot of footage, last time it erupted. When asked about it, he said something like "With Episode II, the biggest challenge [for ILM] was creating Yoda and the CG characters. For Episode III, they need to create a lot of fire effects, but becuase computers can't do that realistically, I got some real footage."

I actually read this on www.theforce.net, and although that isn't what he said exactly, it was something to that effect.

No, I don't. I think they will fight, but even Lucas wouldn't be so stupid as to throw anyone into a volcano and expect them to survive.

Yes, you probably should believe everything that's on the net... First of all, fire effects are one of the first things CGI - graphics could do well, I doubt that they would need to film a volcano for that. And you should never trust the unofficial webpages, people come up with all sort of news just to get visitors. How many times have you downloaded a "Bon Jovi - version" of Cats In The Cradle or Christen By Fire?

Except that Anakin Skywalker isn't just anyone. I believe that Palpatine will tell Anakin that the Jedi have kicked him out, and he will blame Obi Wan. He will confront Obi Wan, who will try to dissaude him from the dark side. Anakin will attack him out of anger, but lose. He will fall into a molten pit, and Obi Wan will leave, believing him dead.

Anakin is truly powerful though, so I think he could survive a fall into lava. It's not like he comes out good as new though...hence the biomechanical suit he wears.

What I read was from TheForce.net, which is the BIGGEST star wars website on the Internet, with more information than the official site. What George said about the fire and stuff was written as a quote, he did actually say it, and it may have even been on the official site too.

Oh, and I don't know how much you know about computers, but even ILM aren't yet capable of creating photo-realistic fire. Even the Balrog from Lord Of The Rings was done using a lot of texture mapping, which required a lot of filming to acquire before CG work could be done.
