I don't know Fox News that well, but IMO this has nothing to do with freedom of speech, but with the dude being unfit for his job. When you're working for a news channel, you should provide the news which should be based on facts instead of on opinions. The network should fire the man, since his opinions will only set a mood - a mood that goes nationwide. What an idiot.

Yeah, that essay was in incredibly poor taste. Wishing terrorism on a city is pretty low.

Like Ponrauil said, his boss should fire him or the readers/viewers should call for his resignation. He shouldn't be accused of a crime though, he didn't say anything that will cause anyone harm. Insensitive and cruel, yeah, but not libel and it's not like he shouted fire in a crowded theater.

Most news networks like Fox do allow time for people, like Bill O'Reilly for example, to drone on about their opinion regarding current news events. That is what they are hired for and their sole purpose for being there. This guy isn't a serious news reporter, but hired by the network to state how he feels. You have to take it for what it is, just an ignorant opinion. This type of stuff is on those cable news networks all of the time. You hear pro US, anti Us, the US deserved 9/11, anti Europe, all sorts of crazy crap.

That sort of controvesy is what the Fox Network thrives on. Rupert Murdoch owns the global network. Starting from humble beginnings with the Adelaide Post (Australia), and slowly purchasing many more companies, media convergence. He, and his company own (not sure about exact numbers) a large number of papers, TV stations, radio channels etc.

His company is responsible for backing the Bush Campaign (in their legal right to do so), but they promote opinion as fact, and that is a real concern for me.

Basically Rupert = bad news.
