Default Suicide Bombers

This forum seems very similar to Backstage, much like the whole website, recently. There aren't any serious discussions anymore.

Anyway, what do you think of suicide bombers, and people who carry out such suicide attacks. I know I wouldn't be able to carry out such an attack. I am the sort of person who likes to see the consequences of his actions.

George W. Bush, a man who went AWOL from the National Guard during the Vietnam War, and others frequently describe these people as cowards. Would Mr W., who likes to play dress up in fighter pilot uniforms for photo opportunities, have had the courage to fly a fighter plane into Saddam's palace before the invasion of Iraq? I think not.

What is your opinion?

You seem to think that all suicide attackers are bad people, or worse people than those whom they are attacking. Why?

Because in general they involve innocent people, and do it to cause as much hurt and pain as possible. I dont really want to get into the whole Bush Vs Saddam argument im just giving my opinion on suicide bomebers.

Sometimes you have to kill innocent civilians to get your message across. I know if I had lost everything in my life, due to (for example) an invading country who were supposed to be 'helping' my people, I believe I would want to take revenge on the civilians of that country, because just taking revenge on the soldiers will not make the world take notice.

Don't agree with that. Killing isn't always necessary to get your point across. Look at Gandi, he managed to get the British out of India with a peaceful movement, even Nelson Mandela remained relatively peaceful. I do not believe in the whole fight fire with fire. Like the saying goes the pen is mightier than the sword.

Suicide bombers aren't cowards. No matter what anyone says, or how the media labels them, it takes a certain amount of backbone to strap a couple of blocks of C4 to your belt and then push the buttom. An amount that I don't think I have, so I guess you could call me a coward. I remember talking about this in the US Embassy Bombing thread and said something to the effect of: Imagine if the Russians invaded the US, preceded by a massive Shock And Awe campaign. Every state capitol razed, the White House, Congress, every military base worth anything, every vacation home of the president and his aides, every place the president slept in the past 6 weeks, gone, pretty much overnight. Then the invading army rushes in, kills our overwhelmed and outgunned troops in a fight so one-sided as not to be even remotely fair, then sets up shop in all our major cities, disregarding our religious and cultural customs, shooting at anyone who looks hostile with no repercussion for unwarranted deaths, rounding up most men over 18 in the middle of the night and marching them out to desert concentration camps with bags over their heads, and then having the audacity to say they were doing it for our own good. I can guarantee you, we'd be the ones running trucks into buildings then, and we would care who got caught in the blast.

One man's suicide bomber is another man's freedom fighter. It's just a matter of perspective. Are the suicide bombers shredding buses over in the Gaza strip doing the right thing. No. They're targeting only civilians. If they wanted to do something right, they could start targeting checkpoints and Israeli soldiers. But I'm also looking at it from a somewhat disinterested point of view, a couple thousand miles away.

Peace only works in certain circumstances. An important religious leader in Iraq would not convince the Americans to leave by starving himself. Nelson Mandela actually started stockpiling arms for a war in his country, and if I'm not mistaken, blew up a factory or warehouse. I read a book on him a long time ago, so I could be thinking of someone else entirely. There's a time and a place for everything. There's a time to argue it out with the legeslative bodies that oppress you, and if that gets you nowhere, if you've exhausted all other choices in a morally right cause of freedom, then its time to pick up your guns and charge the barricades.

a bombs a bomb and killing civilians is killing civilians no matter what the "cause" happens to be.

someone in israel or iraq blowing themselves up outside a nightclub or next to an army checkpoint is no different to the IRA and scum like that blowing people up with the exception that theres one less bastard to shoot in the long run.
