i wouldnt agree with that 2 be honest, tho you may have a point but i wouldnt say u get the full story living outside of northern ireland espeically in the mainland UK (as its called)

and to be far id say i have a very very clear viewpoint of what exactly went on in this country

i haven't read any of the posts except the first one...

can i just say this is a disgrace!
in 6th form we had a holocaust survivor come and to a talk with us. that was the most moving, distressing hour of my life. but also probably the most well spent hour from all of my 16 years in education.

so what? are they not going to mention it ever happened? oh yeah also no wars happened either - it may offend someone.....slavery? never happened!....famine? don't know what you mean!
good idea just paper over all 'the cracks', the world has been lovely for the past millenia nothing bad ever happened! so we don't need to bother with history now.
and dinosaurs? T rex ate grass....don't want to offend any vegetarians.....

i despair.........................................

im not saying you get the full story here either. id actually argue that you dont but outwith ireland and the uk theres none of the politics or religion to skew what history and politics you're being taught. someone being taught irish history in india for example is not going to have an agenda to pursue.

as for having a clear viewpoint, your statement that the british were bad was a fact suggests you don't and obviously you're missing the whole point of history being subjective.

you might want to read the rest before you jump to baseless and ignorant conclusions.

so i read the posts....

ok so they can't teach everything in schools, but i think the holocaust is a fairly important thing to learn. obviously not all the terrible details, but at least the fact. not going to say anymore because being so ignorant on this subject i don't want to put any more people's backs up

there's plenty of important things in history that aren't covered in school classes. the vast majority of this is due to having one or two hours a week to cover all the curriculum from various periods of history.

as i said, ive not covered the holocaust in nearly a decade of history education....

i cant see how u havent covered the holocaust during your school life, maybe its something to do with the scottish education system!

but here in the North of ireland lol, iv come across it 2 or 3 times during my history classes from G.C.S.E through to A-Level,

then again the northern ireland education system is much better than it is in the rest of the U.K. and thats shown across the borad in examination results

possibly, or maybe it's because they just choose not to teach it. there is no set rule that one must teach the holocaust because it was so horrible. in fact in my historiography lecture the tutor posed the question: who deems what is historically important? there's plenty of wars and historical events worse, more evil and bloodier than the holocaust but you never hear about them so why just the holocaust?....

considering how incoherent and ignorant you tend to be at the best of times one could argue that better results are a result of lower standards of examination and not better education.

the same could be said about a lot of people on this board!! but not to name names,

this could be true, but Nothern ireland has always had a higher examinations result, teaching degrees from St Marys in beflast are held in a higher respect than thoses from england and the rest of the UK

and even in things like test the nation northern ireland is always the one coming first

says who?

i assume this is the college you attend im just wondering if you have any proof to back that up.

as for test the nation, i dont have a clue who does what on that but there's a reason mensa and any other IQ entry based organisation will not touch a score on a bbc saturday night programme with a bargepole.
