coolt hanks for clearing that up.

It's sad how someone in a situation like that was used as a political pawn and everyones "concern" was more over pushing their own agenda, ethical, political or otherwise.

There's a woman here called Abigail Witchells who was attacked and stabbed int he neck a few months ago and they thought she was brain dead and had lost her unborn child but just this week she's been moved out of intensive care, they've found the babies still alive and she's regaining speech and movement which is incredible IMO. If she'd lain in a vegetative state for the next 15 years I seriously doubt how anyone who remembered the case from now would expect her to recover.

I can't believe the doctors wouldn't know whether the baby was dead or alive in intensive care

At any rate some years ago a woman in Spain who had been certified as brain dead was kept "alive" so that her child could go on growing inside her up until the time it was due.

Really? Is the child alive? For some reason I found it hard to believe...

I really don't know about now. As I said, it was years ago. But at the moment they said he had been born healthy and fine and all was well. So I guess he is.

I think if you are brain dead, your organs still work properly for a little while, then they'd shut down due to lack of oxygen. So, if you keep everything working properly with help of machines, I don't see why this isn't possible.

Thanks for the explanation Maria. I find fascinating that even though you are braid dead, your other organs can still function and moreover nourish another life.

I know!! You should read the book "Stiff" it's about what happens to a human cadaver under various circumstances. Extremely fascinating
