This case was a tragic situation, but there are people out there who want to be kept alive as long as possible through any means. I don't quite understand their reasoning on wanting to live like that, probably fear of death or not understanding what it would really be like and what it would be like for the family if they were to exist in a vegetative state. That's why anyone who feels like that should draw up a living will. It really isn't hard to do and would prevent the drama that this case unfolded to. I can't imagine having to make a call on whether someone should be kept alive or not, no matter what state of life they might be having. That's why people who don't want to be on machines should have the living will...and several copies of it should be handy, given to relatives, kept in the glove box of the car, etc.
