I got mine in a sale for about £50, usually they are around £80-£120 for a good one I think (though I haven't looked for a while) mine does Freeview too so I get 30+ channels plus digital radio.

I can't recommend a flat panel highly enough. The CRT monitors always gave me eye fatigue after awhile due to the refresh rate that never seemed to be right. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 191T flat panel that displays some of the most gorgeous colour you can imagine. It's 3 years old and shows no sign of having any problems.

I prefer my CRT to the TFTs they have at Uni. They are 15" and the colours always seem very dull to me. I have the refresh rate on here at 85 hertz, anything lower hurts my eyes, this is fine though since I only use 1024 x 768 resolution.

If I could afford it I'd get a much larger screen, maybe 22", a very high quality one, but for now I am happy with this.

These particular Samsung monitors got rave reviews when they first came out. They are still among the best as far as I'm concerned. I gave one to my 80 year old mother - whose eyes are not what they used to be - and she loves it. She is a photographer and she uses photoshop all the time. For a long time she didn't want the flat panel - she wanted the CRT. After having had this flat panel she wouldn't go back.

I'm kinda looking into buying a monitor as well... Right now I just have my laptop and working long days (which is most of the days...) is just bad for my back. But I'd like a high-res big screen monitor and they're just expensive .

I'm still undecided though, maybe I'll get a new desktop computer instead of just a monitor. But then I want a Mac and they're probably changing to Pentium processors next year, so I might want to wait for that... tough decision .

Yeah theyre fairly expensive Sara, but there is no doubt that they have come down in price. I thought for a 19" monitor I would be paying well over £250, but it tourns out they actually start at around £150-160 which is fairly pleasing to see. I dont want a cheap n nasty one, but on the other hand, I dont have £300 to be splashing out either...

Hm... I've been looking at monitors and the ones with at least a 1600x1200 resolution seem to start at about 500€ (which is around £350). But maybe I'm just spoiled and shouldn't ask for a 20+ inch / 1600x1200+ monitor . I wouldn't mind a 30 inch Apple Cinema display though .

HOW RICH are you exactly? 30" is just unreal. I couldnt imagine using anything like that. I can understand it if your gonna be watching a load of dvds, but for General web-browsing etc, I wouldnt feel the need for anything that size. It would be nice to boast about though LOL. Even a 19" is gonna seem massive to me..
