My really good digital Samsung is 3 1/2 years old. It is on and working all day/every day. So far there is not one bad pixel anywhere on the screen. And this site (Jovitalk) is a good test because the dark background will show up a bad pixel as a red pinpoint of light. I had a laptop screen with some bad pixels and this site was particularly annoying (other than for the usual reasons LOL) because the background did not hide any sins.

Red, green or blue, depending on which of the LCD pixels is busted.

You're right, but of all the laptops that I've had it always seems to be the red ones that I see first. Any reason the red ones go bad first?

Actually, it's the red ones that _don't_ break. You see the ones that are still working. I'm not sure but I seem to remember that the red LED works at lower temperatures/voltages than the other ones, so I guess it lasts longer. I've also seen green and blue "dead pixels" and I guess you could have any combination as well, orange, cyan...

Well, ive never really used one for very long, so havent had the chance to notice the difference between a TFT and a CRT, but my friends have always said they are much better. Easier on the eye too, which would be great. Can you return a TFT if it has dead pixels?

Depends on the brand of your TFT, but most brands do have a 'dead pixel policy'. Usually it also depends on where the dead pixels are placed on the screen and how many of them there are. I've got an Acer laptop with one dead pixel in the left top corner of my screen; there's no way I can return it for that. I think with an Acer you have to have 5 dead pixels in an defined area in the middle of your screen to get a replacement. Thankfully on my laptop it's not the most annoying dead pixel I've ever seen, it shows up cyan and most of the time it's hardly visible .

Ah ok, thanks Sara. lets hope I wont have any dead pixels at all huh! Good to know the basic rules about the return policies though
