Default The Big Melt (global warming)

ITV here in the UK is broadcasting all week from Antarctica...and the effects of global warming... saying that we may be at the point of no return.

someone in the bible belt rejected scientific research showing that we're destroying the atmosphere, ruining the environment and killing out species year after year, there's a surprise.

Check out this article: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/...venient11.html

The jist of it is that a group of religious people insisted that "An Inconveinient Truth" must not be shown in any Federal Way schools (and of course they got their way because god forbid anyone would "disrespect" a religious persons beliefs) because the Bible describes that the world will end in flames, not from getting colder, and the world is not billions of years old as described in the film but thousands! According to the religious folks, Gore (and all the scientists with their "evidence" ) present a cock-eyed view of truth.

Frosty Hardison (who names their child Frosty?) the main protestor said, and I quote:

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher,"

Don't you just love it?

There were other grounds for why this movie must not be shown in schools, and I actually think this is worse in many respects. His wife said:

"From what I've seen (of the movie) and what my husband has expressed to me, if (the movie) is going to take the approach of 'bad America, bad America,' I don't think it should be shown at all," Gayle Hardison said. "If you're going to come in and just say America is creating the rotten ruin of the world, I don't think the video should be shown."

Oh well, there may be alot of nutball creationists in America but at least the President isn't one of them. Oh wait a minute......d'oh!

a country with a fraction of the worlds population causing about 20-25% of its yearly world pollution levels is a problem and highlighting this does not equate to simply doing it for the sake of demeaning america.

i'm fairly certain al gore's educated to a higher level than some imbecile that doesn't even believe her children are capable of subjectively making their own minds up when presented with several sources of evidence.

If Al Gore is so educated and the world is in such danger, why doesnt he subscribe to the Green power that is available at his house? Why does he fly all over the place in jets, burning jet fuel into our atmosphere, and then drive 10 gas drinking SUVs to his speaking engagement, instead of just doing it from his house? Yes, he drove a Prius to 1 speaking engagement, but he got in it from his 10 SUVs parked a block away. With today's technology he could easily speak from home. Of course, then he wouldnt get paid big bucks to travel and speak.

And what about the out of control nuclear reaction we call the Sun. Could it have any effect on the temperature? Ha! Of course not. It is America and their SUVs that are going to cause us all to burn where we stand. Or freeze where we stand, depending on who you listen to. Well, all Americans except Al Gore.

so on in one paragraph you're belittling a man who's trying to highlight the problem of global warming by pointing out that he drives SUV's then in the next you put forward the idea that it's actually the sun and SUV's have nothing to do with it. interesting.

the problem is that it IS SUV'S AND IT IS AMERICA for the most part. 300 million people causing 20-25% of the world yearly emissions is a monstrosity. china is the same, india won't be too far behind in the future and the UK is deplorable too. we're all responsible but whilst some of us act like adults and try to do something about it it seems a certain breed of american just like to shout: HEY MAN IT'S JUST THAT YOU HATE AMERICA, WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA MAN? YOU SUCK!!!

I was really interested in the ITV report until last night when the reporter ssaid 'is this is the melting just due to the normal summer in Antartica or something else' !!!!!!!!

As usual they are trying to be over dramatic... its summer there, stuff melts !!!!!!!

I would rather see footage in the winter see what it looks like then. I know there is global warming going on but why try and use an antartica summer for effects...

all it takes is the earth to warm by a degree or 2 over a period of time for alot more the ice to melt in the summer and alot less of it to freeze back in winter...
