Why could you accept the no-sex-before-marriage thing and not the no-condoms thing?
no sex b4 mariage is veyr veyr common in asian population, and i think some ppl in general prefer to wait for the chruch bells....

But why? I thought people who waited did it just because of religion? Which are the non-religious reasons for not doing it before you get married?

actually i explained it already above, but i can do it again a bit more precise:

no sex before merriage: it's not a bad thing if people believe him and wait untill merriage. they don't harm anybody with that. there is no danger for others. if everybody would do it or nobody would do it there's not much of a difference in the consequences.

no condoms: definitely a stupid thing. if people have sex with somebody they're not married with (wich is simply the reality) they need to have protection from things called AIDS, Tripper, Syphilis, .... (to name only to most known ones). that's one good reason for condoms. another good reason is that there are a lot of people that are married and have sex but don't want to have children. so here again they need protection. (and the pope is also against the pill etc. etc., against all these things). so if people stop using condoms just because the pope says it there will be really bad consequences, more AIDS-victims, more unintentional childbirthes etc. etc.

if something has no bad consequences at all, i can accept it. if something has a lot of bad consequences for sure, i say that it's stupid and i am against it. shouldn't be so hard to understand i think...

lol I didn't even know about that thing I only knew that during lent we mustn`t east any meat and preachers now said avoiding sweets for kids is more important than meet.
well try to stick to the no sweets rule cause it`s a good way to avoid to put on to much wait cause we eat to much of them during carneval and during easter time, but noone really cares about those rules.

Or is anyone here who does follow them?

But the basis is the same for the two.

I disagree with the chuch's opinion regarding condoms, but fair enough for them theire position is only logical. I mean, when they say the whole point of sex is producing children, you can't expect them to accept something that stops that! They're not against the condom preventing diseases, they're against sex not being used for having children and inside the marriage. And this, even if I disagree, I can understand perfectly well.

If they accepted condoms in some instances, their whole theory would fall apart!

My mum, dad, aunt, grandmother, etc do stick to the not eating meat thing. My mum only cooks fish on Lent Fridays and if she gets me eating ham or whatever she'll say something along the lines of "Remeber it's Friday today". Not angrily, but that's what she was taught and she sticks to it. She understands I don't realy get it, though.

yeah, but there's this problem: if you say to your 14 year old daughter to not have sex before merriage, she will maybe follow your "rule" and maybe not. if she still has sex, it's not too bad for her or for you. she only doesn sin in the eyes of the church, but if she's really religious and really cares about not doing sins, she will wait till marriage anyway.

on the other hand if you tell her to not use condoms, cause that's a sin, there's a good chance that she will believe that (for her it's a probably huge difference between to "sex or no sex" thing and the "sex with condoms or without") and maybe she will have sex without a condom and maybe she will be pregnant or get an affliction.

and again, the biggest problems are in africa where they have so many AIDS victims in some countries and the people believe that the will not come to heaven if the use condoms and therefore have sex without. many of them know that they are HIV positive and they can eighter listen to the doctor and have sex only with condoms in the future or listen to the pope who says that they will come in hell if they do that. and for many of them the religion is so important that they will believe the pope. so his "no condoms" message is stupid and dangerous for them.
