it wasnt Mary who conceived the child, it was who God put child there, therefore God created the miracle and thats who you should pray to, not Mary.

Mary was just used as a vessel, she didnt exactly plan or have a say in any of it.

well I had a real good teacher in religion class in scool, she was married to a buddhist so she informed about all the big religions even she should teach us the catholic rules and their stories .

anyway she said the smartest thing I`ve ever heard from a beliving christ: the whole thing about miracles, marry the virgin bla bla it`s all a mistake in translation. Well maybe it`s just something that appears as a possiblity in our language cause the german word for Virgin is yougWomen as stupid as it is. maybe thats a mistake that happend at first translations, or maybe Marry and Joseph where married and even Jesus had a wife, noone botherd mentioning it in the bible.

well I didn't read it but does it say that Marry has never had sex? and jesus too? cause our preachers may not even have sex. Really nonsense

I am a practicing Catholic, but IMO, the church has got to get with the times on certain issues. For example, birth control. Anything that doesn't allow pregnancy is a sin. With all the stuff that is out there these days, you can never be too careful. If you are going to engage in premarital sexual relations, protect yourself. My mother said to me, "If you're going to go out and have sex, for God's sake, protect yourself." Now granted, in the Catholic religion, a man and woman should wait until after marriage to have sex. But in reality, this is not happening.

As for the no turning off life support machines, I also disagree with what the Church says. If there is no chance for survival, what is the point of living? Why should we subject people to lives hooking up to machines that breathe for them? What kind of life is that? All you do is prolong the suffering of the person in question. I'm all for DNRs (do not resusicate).

Then there are no miracles since all miracles come from God and use people as vessels!

As for misstranslations... I think there are quite a few in the Bible that have influenced our concept of religion.

Also I think a few years ago a tomb was found where it said Luke son of Jesus and archaeologists were speculating with the possibility that it was true. Don't know what came off it.

And Jim, my religion teacher in school (a nun) said Jesus most probably had never made a real miracle in his whole life. They were all symbolic examples. Walking on water meaning Jesus was above all things good or bad. The multiplication of fish and bread implying you have to share what few things you've got etc because a crumb is better than nothing at all. The parting of the water by Moses is easily explain because that river "capacity" is constantly changing etc. So it's pretty stupid that the Church demand his would-be saints to have carried out some sort of sin.

Exactly! The Bible can be read both figuratively or literally. When people read it literally though, you can run into sticky situations.

By stars, do you prophets or saint-like figures? I have read the Torah, but that is all.
