I think sometiomes violence is needed maybe for the plot. But violence for violence sake is a no-no with me. We all know he ot those nails into his hands, etc. and we all can imagine it was painful and scary, and whatever. Do we need to actually see it and recreate on it? I don't think so! And I'm not against it because it's about Jesus or anything. I always say that Braveheart is as far as I get when it comes to violence.

Also there are ways where you can convey something without really making it so explicit.

I'll probably wait until they show it on TV, then I'll watch it and switch off TV if I don't like what I see. But I don't think I'm paying to watch it

After seeing this movie, I don't think anyone can imagine what any of it was like. I think the violence is needed to show what Jesus went through and to fully appreciate his sacrifice. It was a violent time, and Gibson captured that and portrayed it to the audience. Without it, he wouldn't have been telling the correct story, as it would have been a watered down version of what happened.

Hmmm i wasn't too bothered about it but it sounds like it might actually be worth checking out. doesn't sound like the kinda film u can take a carry out in with u and chill out watchign though....

someone in the paper today pointed out that amidst all the protests and stuff about the film. It's Mel Gibsons portrayal of what he think went on and he doesn't really know just as no one, even the Pope doesn't exactly know what went on so why the big outcry?

I'm wondering if the claims of it being anti semitist are actually based on anything or if it's just a defence mechanism as usual

I agree with the fact that it is Mel Gibsons portrayal of what he thinks went on, as that is the case with anything dealing with the Bible. It is all how you interpret it. As for that anti-semitism, the movie shows the Jews handing Jesus over to the Romans. The extent of the Jews part is capturing Jesus, beating him up a bit, handing him to the Romans who really didn't want him, but the Jews insisted that the Romans crucify him. The Romans took it from there with all of the violence against Jesus.

well if that's what's actually supposed to have happened then they don't have much of a basis for claiming anti semitism.

The Jews argue that Pontius Pilot showed some remorse and it didn't portray the Jews as showing any. Pontius didn't want to kill Jesus, and the Rabbi's threatened him saying they would tell Ceasar. But if you watch the film, you will see that some of the Jews that were there tried to help Jesus while the Roman soldiers were basically kicking the crap out of him. I will stop now as I don't want to rehash the entire story, but I just can't understand why the Jews are so upset. It baffles me.

just seems like they take alot of things personally or harsh ie it seems you can't say anything remotely bad about anythign Jewish without being branded anti semitist.
