I am absolutely repulsed by the outcome of this World Cup. Everything affiliated with the Italian team was just too shady that the victory seems anything but legit... the alleged gambling allegations against them, the fact they have the highest number of dives, their convenient last minute strokes of luck leading them to a win, and of course, all the bogus calls by the refs in their favor. I smell something fishy and it ain't fried calamari.

Zidane should've known better than to react the way he did. Surely he was well aware of the fact he was playing against a bunch of classless, dirty weasels. I can only imagine what kinda comment was made to provoke such an act, but it must've been bad. Zidane is an institution, have some ****in respect. Oh wait... we're talking about Italy here.

Italy did not deserve to win. I don't care who I insult or who disagrees.. they showed minimal skill throughout this tournament.. All I saw was a shitload of luck.

Oh and this is a good place to vent a related frustration of mine: what is it with the sports and 'oh my god our children' crap? I used to think that was an inherent American thing but alas it seems rampant abroad as well:

The French sports daily L'Equipe wrote: "This morning, Zinedine, what do we tell our children, and all those for whom you were the living role model for all times?" Its front-page headline: "Eternal Regrets."

I'd suggest that if a parent needs to ask Zinedine what to tell their children, they should re-think why they had them in the first place. Shame really cause I thought this incident was an excellent opportunity to have some good conversations about sportsmanship/fair play/mental pressure/personal achievement/media/bias/jumping to conclusions... good stuff...

Obviously I don't promote violent outbursts at sporting events - but am not more or less opposed to them than at any other public or private event. Yet, Zidanes incident was more thought provoking and could have been used for a lot more constructive discussions/conversations than the ordinary foul.

2006 world cup was full of surprises ... experts predicted something and it came out something else ... it was brazil germany final before the world cup as...experts predicted but now ... italy has gone up and finally have won the trophy....
i was thinkin only onething.....i have seen the worst bodyplay in this WC....it was horrible...fifa shld think on this...it was like warriors not players.....it is the first time...i never saw tht much ... zidane with a head butt and italy takin the penalty dramatically ... it was a stage .. where actors were performing :d

Play makers like him are aggressed physically and verbally at every official game they play. They're bound to lose at any time, and Zidane has done it twice in 108 caps. I wouldn't call that a "history of losing his temper."

Blame the player all you want for 10 seconds of madness, but to put down the man like some of you are for that only action is just as stupid as the action itself.

Yesterday we just had the confirmation that Zidane is human after all. I'll remember the player for the wonderfull 17 years of career that preceeded those 10 seconds.
Ditto. Zidane has been one of my favourite players for years and years and nothing will change that. He clearly showed the great player he is during this Cup. I'm just sad for him, who knows if we'll ever know what Materazzi said. Whether he was called "terrorist" as I read somewhere else or not. It is just a pity the way his whole career ended, with a red card in the most important match of his life perhaps.

I still think Italy did very well, I have to admit they didn't shine at the beginning and I'd have never guessed they'd end up winning but this is football.

A pity we need to wait 4 years for the next one!
