Default Things to do in NYC?

I'll be in NYC with my mom for a few days in January. I have been to NYC twice already, and besides doing the usual sightseeing stuff, I am looking for a few tips from people living in that area.

I am really excited and I'd really appreciate your help guys!

I went in Feb 2010. Here are a few things we did:

Went to a Knicks game at MSG
Saw Rock Of Ages on Broadway - very cool
Got the subway a lot - it's cheap & good for going a to b long distance
Harlem - very cool neighbourhood
Greenwich village & Meat packing district. Developing areas with clique and cool stuff going on
Rockafella at night, Empire State by day
Don't pay for the Statue of Liberty. Get the free ferry to Staten Island and it goes right past it with amazing views. Get this from by ground zero
Walked Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn. Spectacular views

The West Village is a really cool place to hang out, but might be a little awkward with your mom. You can walk around and window shop, and they have trendy cloths that aren't to expensive, and a lot of cool record stores. The draw back because of your mom, there are a lot of shops with sex toys and drug paraphernalia. There are also a lot of flamboyant people walking around, it's a gay / artistic neighborhood. It's also the place to go if you want a tatoo or piercing, there are great tattoo artists there.

If you do go there, check out Bleecker Street Records, if your lucky you might find some rare Bon Jovi bootlegs. Go to Grey's Papaya on 8th st and 6th ave for the best hot dogs in NYC. 2 dogs and drink for $3.50 and they're the best. It's also just 2 blocks from Washington Square Park, which is a cool place to hang out. It's right next to NYU, so a lot of the college kids hang out there. Again, might be weird with your mom there, flamboyant people walking around, and people will ask if you want to buy weed. But you can also play some chess with the locals, people watch, and there is always street entertainers at the square.
