You'll feel like a right dickhead if anyone ever sets your boots on fire keeper

I hate maths too. even my basic maths is terrible considering I spent a year doign accountancy at university.

just out of interest what exactly the **** is standard deviation for? I can't do it and couldn't if my life depended on it but I;'ve never even knew exactly what you're supposed to be working out never mind how to do it.

to put it rather crudely, it's the mean of the mean. it's just a measure of how tightly packed around the mean the data is or it's distribution. most calculators will work it out now, but if not then it's the square root of the variance.

Oh well - I wouldn't want to miss my "why didn't I listen to Jim?" moment in life. Or maybe I would :P

I get them all the time. You get used to them after a while but if some mofo had just hit me with a petrol bomb I would be a bit more worried about it than usual.

The Standard deviation is the only point I understood when I had Statistics at Uni

Well I passed my maths A-level but can't remember much of it now. I remember learning about standard deviation but would have no idea what to do now.

Ouch - that will wear the rest of the grooves too fast.

A minor click was impossible to find and fix but a skip (one that kept repeating) could sometimes be fixed by using a very high magnifier and a VERY sharp needle. Basically - you find where the "bump" is and then cut a new groove. With a steady hand it worked well and prevented further damage to the record. There was also a particular solution that was used that would coat the grooves and fill in the minor clicks and pops. I have no clue if a product such as that is still sold.

about the furthest i got with stuff like that was a pass at quantative analysis for business last year and even though it sounds fancvy it was literally somethign you would do in 3rd year at high school. i went about 3 hours the full term and passed.

about the most advanced I'll ever be with my maths is intermediate 2 at high school which is kinda in between your highest high school exams and the middle ones you can do.

I`m crap at maths too! I failed the final exam in statistics last year and did a repetition exam after the summer which i passed with a B However, the whole summer i did nothing else than studying for it. I^ve forgotten most of it now, i`m sure if i had to do the exam again i`d fail it
