This Old Darkness
Here he is,
A lost friend come to stay,
As if I missed him anyway.
My only company in madness,
The one I could talk to in the night,
He says he's coming back before things start looking bright.
This old darkness, he's back,
Turning moonlight into black,
Changing all my sunbeams into shadows,
And blends my days right into dark,
This old darkness, he's back.
I hear him knocking,
While I pretend that I'm not there,
But even though I'm still, somehow he still hears.
He says he only wants to help me,
Because too much sunlight hurts the skin,
And I prefer the darkness anyway, it's all I've ever lived in.
This old darkness, he's back,
Turning moonlight into black,
Changing all my sunbeams into shadows,
And blends my days right into dark,
This old darkness, he's back.
He sits beside me,
Holds my hand in his,
Tells me its forever, there's no friendship quite like this.
And he whispers,
A million voices speak from hell,
I welcome him with open arms because it's better than being by myself.
This old darkness, he's back,
Turning moonlight into black,
Changing all my sunbeams into shadows,
And blends my days right into dark,
This old darkness, he's back.
